Slave Zero X Xbox Demo Impressions

Following the ID@Xbox stream hosted by IGN. There is a whole slew of demos for Xbox players to engage in. Ranging from more well-known gems like Sea of Stars to some more obscure yet interesting titles like Slave Zero X. This game is a very interesting action game, in both style and substance. It has an interesting aesthetic but also some very satisfying combat to really sink your teeth into. The demo not only offered a good amount of content but left off with an intriguing cliffhanger. Here is what you can expect from the game.

Slave Zero X Demo Impressions

Slave Zero X puts you in control of Shou who takes over a super warrior called a Slave Unit. After taking over the unit, he has to break out of a facility controlled by The Guardians. Why he takes over the Slave Unit is not fully explained but it serves the gameplay very well. The gameplay on that front, however, was the only enjoyable part outside of the end of the demo.

Slave Zero X features a very strong hack-and-slash type of combat in long walkways against varied types of enemies. They have different attack patterns but they all share different health pools to match the crazy combos you can do as Shou. Outside of normal two-button combinations, you can dash and perform follow-up attacks. As well as a super punch that does crazy amounts of damage.

But the demo had some issues with the camera sadly. In some areas of the game, the camera would rotate and not rotate back until you reach a certain point around a corner. This does not sound too bad until this happens in an encounter and can make it impossible to see what’s going on., potentially killing you. This killed some of the joy, but it wasn’t as bad later on in the demo.

I am on the right, but the camera is focused on only the upper level.

The gameplay and atmosphere are really good, however. I just hope the narrative gets stronger beyond the point it left off in the demo as I was underwhelmed by what little there was to latch onto.

Slave Zero X is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4|5, and Nintendo Switch with no concrete release date at this time.
