As I told you last month we would be having periodic updates for Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant. Well, we received an update in July with a little bit of info. We will have some words from the team about Gamescom. Information about the monster design contest, a sneak peek, and news about Whispike Survivors. I would expect these updates to kind of roll out monthly, as long as events don’t interfere with them. So let’s see what the team has in store for everyone.
Gamescom Appearance
The team has been enjoying the fact that they have been selected to appear at Gamescom. They will be showing off a Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant demo. Not only that they even appeared in the Indie Arena Booth line-up video! The team had this to say about their Gamescom appearance:
Hi everyone! We keep working on the game at a good pace, getting ready for Gamescom. In fact, we’ve been selected to appear in the Indie Arena Booth line-up video! It’s a bit of a “blink-and-you-miss-it” thing, but at least we appear in it (at 1:26)!
Indie Arena Booth hosts more than 130 games this year, so being among the 30-ish highlighted games is huge for us. We’ll be at Gamescom (in Cologne, Germany) from August 22nd to Sunday 27th, so if you’re planning to go, don’t hesitate to visit our booth and say hi!
Obviously, I’m excited because I backed the game, but even if I just look at the info about the game and what the team has said that also adds to the excitement.
Monster Design Contest
For those who may be new to Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant the team behind had a lot of cool stuff as part of their Kickstarter and what they wanted to do. One of these things was the Monster/Boss/Revenant design contest where fans could submit their own personal designs for a chance to make it into the game. Here is what the team had to say about all that:
As we announced in this update, the winner of the Monster Design Contest was Atterrenti. We recently made the in-game model, here, have it!
To make it more in line with the rest of the “regular” monsters, we decided to simplify its design a bit and make it more symmetrical, so it looked less like a boss enemy. Speaking of bosses, remember that if you’re a backer you can submit your Boss and Revenant designs in the private area until the end of August in our Discord server! You can have your design appear in the game, like Atterrenti!
A Sneak Peak
Even with Gamescom fast approaching that hasn’t stopped Grimorio of Games from continuing to work hard on Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant. They have been hard at work and wanted to share a little sneak peek of the outskirts of one of their cities. They had this to say:
Our environment artist is currently working on one of the game’s cities, and we wanted to show how it’s going. This is Raena!
If you played the first game and got all the Lost Diaries, this name might ring a bell, of course! It is north of this city where the Necromancer’s Crypt is located. Now you’ll be able to walk from one place to the other! We are still working on it (for example, the empty space at right it’s supposed to be crop fields), but it’s taking shape! And lastly…
Whispike Survivors Release
The last bit of this update is about Whispike Survivors. If you read my last Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant update you know Whispike Survivors was a part of an April Fools joke, that turned out to become a real game. The team has been working simultaneously on both games and Whispike Survivors is about the release soon! Here is what they said about the game and the release:
We can finally announce Whispike Survivors’ release date! Get ready to play it on your PC, PS4/PS5 and Nintendo Switch on July 20th! Xbox players (Xbox One and Xbox Series) will have to wait two more weeks, until August 3rd (with preorders open on July 27th). Remember that Whispike Survivors is a spin-off game of Sword of the Necromancer which started as an April Fools joke and blends two trendy game genres: horde survivor and farm simulator.
And as a surprise gift, all backers that pledged for Fan Edition and above will receive a Steam key for Whispike Survivors on the release day! (only a Steam key will be provided, regardless of the platform choice for Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant.) The game will have a very low price on all platforms. So if you are interested, please get it on the release day to support us! You can also wishlist on Steam in the meantime. That’s all for today, Kind regards!
Wrap-Up
Clearly, the team is busy prepping for the debut of their demo at Gamescom as well as their continued work. It’s actually crazy I accidentally found this game one day while sharing another article. I checked out the Kickstarter and decided to support these developers. You might be seeing my name in the credits in fact! I can’t wait to check out the demo and see what else the team has in store for Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant.
