On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, Bethesda dropped a new patch, and mod download storefront for Skyrim. It is officially called, Bethesda Game Studios Creations. This is a paid mod creation program and storefront. The 11.8 GB update revamps the way you select mods through the bethesda.net mod page.
This will affect PlayStation, Xbox, and PC editions of Skyrim Special Edition/Anniversary Edition (Legendary and Switch versions, even the anniversary upgrade, are not affected). You can find the full patch notes here.
Skyrim to Have Mods that Pay Creators via Creation Storefront
Previously, you could download mods from bethesda.net through an in-game menu. Now you will have access to an entire storefront that includes those free mods, Creation Club content, and Creations.
Creations are new mods that you can pay for, which give a percentage of the purchase price to the creators of the mod.
Creation Club Content was everything included in the Skyrim Anniversary Edition and is separate from Creations. It appears that creations will only be available for purchase with Creation Club Credits, which may have a name change soon. If you like the Minecraft Marketplace, this will be pretty familiar to you. If you hate paid mods, this has no effect on your ability to mod the game for free.
