The Xbox Cloud Gaming App has recently made its way onto Meta Quest devices. So I wanted to give my quick impressions of my experience. I utilized the the app for a few days and here are my quick thoughts.
The Way It Looks
So when it comes to your VR space one of the things I like is the customizations. Not only that but the way my surroundings look while in VR. When you start up the Xbox Cloud Gaming App and set things up, you do get some minor options to change the way the surroundings look. I set mine up with the greenish Xbox background and thought it gave off a cool Xbox vibe.
You also can adjust the size of the screen. I went with the extra large screen while playing. I wanted to see how far the game could stretch without distorting or anything like that. Overall, I’d say it looked good. Images didn’t get distorted or seemed stretched. So very good implementation.

What I Played
When deciding what to play I knew I wanted to push the limits of playing through the Cloud. I didn’t count the exact number of games available or if it was one for one the same as Game Pass on Xbox. I will say however it seemed pretty close if not the same, so that means there is a lot available. I decided to check out the MMO, RTS, and single-player genres. So the games I played through the Xbox Cloud Gaming App were Starfield, Age of Empires 4, and Elder Scrolls Online.
The Games
I was surprised in my experience with the Xbox Cloud Gaming App, that Age of Empires 4 worked the best. Normally, it can be very taxing on some PCs. So I was thrilled with the performance here. I played Skirmish mode as well as online with people. There was no stuttering and the connection never dropped. It was a great experience, besides losing the online matches.

When it came to Elder Scrolls Online I jumped straight into Cyrodill PVP. If you know me you know I live in Cyrodill PVP when playing. To my surprise, ESO also worked really well through the Xbox Cloud Gaming app. I made sure to get into some big keep fights. There were times we had a total of around 40 or so people fighting for a keep and no lag or issues like that. The performance was solid all the way through. You just have to picture all the combat with weapons, spells, and siege. So I was surprised.

Then we have Starfield. It didn’t perform terribly or anything like that for me, but there were some minor issues. I’d be in a fight shooting an enemy and then I would go to turn, and my gun would keep moving. It only happened a few times, so nothing serious. There was also some minor stuttering, but nothing that ruined the experience.

Ease of Setup
I wrote something previously about setting up the Xbox Cloud Gaming App if you have issues. Besides that everything was a smooth experience. The Xbox controller was very simple to sync up to the Quest device. No difficulties at all getting it all set up and right into a game.
Final Thoughts
Am I going to rush to my Quest Device to utilize the Xbox Cloud Gaming App often? The answer to that is probably not. Even though I enjoyed it a lot actually, I can just utilize Cloud Gaming on my Laptop, Xbox, etc. However, being able to pop on my Quest Device and play on a giant screen is a lot of fun and I will do it from time to time. I believe this is another avenue for Xbox to reach billions of gamers who want to experience gaming. I recommend trying it out and seeing if it’s for you.
