These RADS Are Too Much – Fallout 4 Achievement Bug

Update: Xbox officially addressed the issue with Fallout 4 and it’s achievement bug as of April 21st, 2024.

The critically acclaimed Fallout show on Amazon is driving attention to the series. Unfortunately, it seems that the Xbox version’s achievements for Fallout 4 are broken as of this writing. No doubt ruining the fun for Xbox Vault Dwellers looking for adventures in the wasteland.

Fallout 4 Achievement Bug

As reported on True Achievements, earning Achievements on the Xbox version of Fallout 4 is broken as of this writing. They have stated the following on the situation.

According to our data, the last time someone unlocked a Fallout 4 achievement in the base game or any of its DLC expansions was on March 30. Since then, reports about the issue have trickled in, but as of the release of Amazon’s new Fallout TV show, which has clearly inspired many to either return to or pick up Fallout 4, we’ve seen a Megaton-sized explosion in players saying they too are unable to unlock any achievements in the RPG.

We’re not exactly sure why the achievements are all currently broken in Fallout 4, as from what we can tell, the game hasn’t received an update in a long time. The Xbox version also appears to be the only version impacted by this issue — players are still unlocking achievements in Fallout 4 on Steam and on Windows (the Windows version has a separate stack of achievements) and trophies over on PlayStation.

However, it could be that the upcoming Series X/S release of Fallout 4 will get rid of this infestation of RAD Roaches and the like.

Xbox Left Behind, Again

This situation joins the list of eyebrow-raising issues surrounding Microsoft-owned products struggling on their own box but running fine or better elsewhere.

Bethesda specifically has been offering better playing and running experiences on PC and PlayStation over the Xbox versions of some of their products. While minor shadow differences with Hi-Fi Rush on PS5 don’t mean much, the publishers Ghostwire Tokyo running significantly better on PlayStation 5 than Series X|S is concerning.

In addition, issues like this should not be happening when you have your IP in such a public spotlight like this. Fallout (Prime) has driven an insane level of attention to the games, with record numbers for Fallout 76 and Fallout Shelter thanks to the show’s success.

Xbox players can enjoy fantastic native versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, but every Fallout experience on Xbox consoles should be the best place to play the series, full stop. But it is not.

Overall Thoughts

As someone very eager to join my fellow Vault dwellers in the wastelands, it’s disappointing seeing the Xbox version of Fallout 4 being in a bad state at the moment.

But Xbox players won’t have to wait long, with the Series X|S version launching soon and hopefully an update fixing this issue in the short term releasing by the time of this writing.
