Jumping to New Seas – Ubisoft Games Going to Steam
In the PC gaming space, there are multiple storefronts. And Ubisoft has one of its own, releasing games on PC exclusively through its launcher. However, it appears games two of their newest releases will find a new home on Steam.
Ubisoft Games coming to Steam
In a recent announcement, both Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will be released on Steam in 2024. The former launches on June 17th, 2024 while the latter releases on August 8th, 2024.
You can wishlist both games on Steam as of this writing.
Importance of the Steam Launch
While the PC market is known for multiple launchers, with even more potentially on the way, the default platform for most is Steam. The platform has existed for years, with gamer’s libraries massive. The whole ‘Steam Backlog’ comment isn’t simply a joke, it’s a fact for most PC gamers.
In addition, it helps with making the games playable on a Steam Deck. When running a game through another launcher on the handheld PC, you run into issues.
It’s a key reason why games coming to Steam, such as the recent Kingdom Hearts Steam ports, got such praise. It ensures ease of use on multiple PC-based platforms.
What is Next for Ubisoft?
There is a high likelihood of Ubisoft approaching releasing games on Steam, similar to these two titles, again in the future. It ensures more money for their bottom line and some people would refuse to buy games on another launcher or storefront.
The upcoming Assasin Creed: Shadows and Star Wars: Outlaws will be released on the Ubisoft Launcher first, but it is possible they could be released on Steam a few months later. Potentially even using a ‘now Steam Deck certified’ as a marketing beat to draw in additional sales.
Closing Thoughts on Ubisoft PC Efforts
As a console-only gamer, I don’t engage in the PC space all that much. But even I know the importance of releasing one’s game on Steam. It’s the platform for PC gamers and having your game on there will do so much for your title.
