Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Date Revealed

Nintendo revealed that the Switch 2 pre-orders for the US market will start on April 24th. In addition, they confirmed that pricing for both the console and games like Mario Kart World ($80) and Donkey Kong Bananza($70) will hold at their revealed price points.

Many were concerned about the Switch 2 console’s price due to the tariff situation in the United States, and in the future, the price could easily go up if the situation doesn’t improve. But for those who want to get the console at launch or within the launch window, Nintendo is holding the line on their announced pricing.

Pre-order information across various retailers and Nintendo’s own website will likely be updated next week once the official pre-orders go live.

Nintendo’s Official Comment on the Pre-Order Situation

In a press release going over the pricing situation, Nintendo said the following:

We apologize for the retail pre-order delay, and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing. We thank our customers for their patience, and we share their excitement to experience Nintendo Switch 2 starting June 5, 2025.

They do, however, comment that prices for their products could change in the future:

However, Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions. Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.

Closing Thoughts on Switch 2

Being someone who expressed interest in the Nintendo Switch 2 after having a great hands-on session with the console and hearing additional information on the game line-up, knowing that buying one isn’t too expensive, is a relief.

When pricing video game hardware at $600 or higher, you begin pricing out your audience. Look no further than the PlayStation 5 Pro, a powerful console releasing at $700, and only recently had games that utilized the powerful tech inside it.

If Nintendo had not taken the financial hit for the Switch 2 pricing, they would have priced out their core audience, younger gamers, and families that love Mario and his friends. Launching at a price similar to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X ensures everyone can buy the console without any major sticker shock.

The $80 game pricing is a concern as more titles opt for that price point following Mario Kart World’s release. But for the console itself maintaining its $450 base price, that will do a lot to ensure Nintendo gains potential success with their newest console.
