As we barrel into a digital future for game content, service outages become a much bigger problem. Sadly, as of this writing, Xbox online services for digital and physical games are facing major outages. Here’s everything you need to know.
What Services are Affected By the Xbox Service Outage?
Originally reported by internal Xbox online teams on July 26th, Xbox servers are dealing with a major outage.
Playing digital games, accessing your digital library, playing backward-compatible games on Xbox hardware, and even trying to install physical disks are impacted. You can learn more about the outage on Xbox’s official support page.
What You Can Do In the Meantime
The Xbox Support team is hard at work addressing the issue, sharing frequent updates via their Twitter/X account. But if you set your Xbox console as the ‘Home’ system, you have access to installed physical and digital games offline.

To set your Xbox console as your home Xbox, follow these steps:
1. Sign in to the Microsoft account on your Xbox console.
2. Press the Xbox button on your controller and navigate to the Profile & system tab.
3. Select Settings and then choose General.
4. Then, select Personalization > My home Xbox.
5. Select Make this my home Xbox and then choose the MAKE THIS MY HOME XBOX option again to confirm.
I’ve done this in the past when I had internet issues with my Series X, and whenever I had server or online issues, I never lost access to my content.
