The day of TennoCon 2026 is here, and like every year for the last few years, it has opened with more news and gameplay for Soulframe, the upcoming fantasy MMORPG that is currently still in its “Preludes” pre-alpha program. Today’s news has been a whirlwind of exciting new gameplay features, story reveals, and much more. With more to come during TennoLive during the day. Below is everything we learned from this morning’s Devstream for the game.
Everything from Devstream 16 For Soulframe at TennoCon 2026
To get some big news out of the way. Digital Extremes is opening up the Preludes program to everyone who has signed up so far. This means if you have signed up and have yet to receive your invite, you should be able to jump in now. This will be freely open until tomorrow at midnight.
Moving forward to the reveals during the Devstream, they have confirmed that the long-awaited mounts for Soulframe are arriving in an update this fall. In past devstreams, they have stated that they need to work on a quest to bond with your mount before giving you the reins, so to speak, and that will be arriving in an update later in the year. They showed the summoning mechanic requiring the Envoy’s flute, and have shown the movement system for them. You can jump and sprint, but not attack with them, sadly.
Also coming to Soulframe is fishing! They showed off a brief snippet of gameplay, with weather changes and it fully brings in all the usual open world gameplay mechanics to Midrath Island finally.
They also showed off some exciting encounters and an interesting new pact for Envoys who want to have a much darker feeling in their loadout.
A Corrupted Pact, a New Mendicant Boss and Weapon
During the demo, they showed off the first of its kind: a Corrupted Pact for Envoys, the Vadagar Pact. Pacts are player classes in Soulframe, with unique abilities and aesthetics that are directly tied to the right arm of the player. While it will have its own abilities, it will also unlock a new set of Virtues for players, Wrath, Doom, and Death. Virtues are 3 forms of passives that you can tune to your playstyle. These corrupted Virtues were not explained during the demo, but may function similarly to the normal Virtues. These new Virtues also open up new build opportunities for weapons as well if they function similarly to the already existing Courage, Grace, and Spirit Virtues.
The Pact itself was cool to watch in action, throwing glaives, debuffing enemies and summoning mendicant horses to trample enemies. It is a very cool new addition to the game!
Next, they showed off more gameplay for a new open world boss, the Mendicant Reinbreaker. The Reinbreaker will appear near the collapsed Ode sky towers on the map. This boss will also be launching in the Preludes that very day. This means that if you got your invite to play for the first time, you’ll have a cool new boss to take down!
Finally, they showed a new chainblade coming to Soulframe. This new chainblade has a very cool Mendicant aesthetic to it. But it will also feature a cool ability: it will extend out like a whip. The ability allows this weapon to be used at a range and makes it really stand out.
Reveals of Voice Talent for Soulframe
During the stream, they also invited Jennifer English, who is voicing the Empress character for the Envoys. She has voiced many amazing characters in game of the year winning games over the years. Such as Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. She gave a very ominous teaser line for what to expect during TennoLive later today.
She is joining the cast alongside Ben Starr. He has voiced many characters over the years in similar titles as well. Such as Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy 16. As well as Verso in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. But his character, confirmed to be named “Tempest Bayor”, was not showcased in the demo. This means his character will be shown during the announced story quest demo during TennoLive later today.
