Cyberpunk 2077 Comes to Battle.net, and My First Question Was “Who Is This For?”

Cyberpunk coming to Battlenet

When I heard Cyberpunk 2077 was coming to Battle.net, my first reaction was, “Oh wait, what? Isn’t Battle.net a Microsoft thing?” I was interested in seeing what the benefits to CD PROJEKT RED were. Is this just another platform for distribution, or is there a deeper collaboration?

What Is Cyberpunk 2077?

Cyberpunk 2077 is CD PROJEKT RED’s open-world RPG set in Night City. I haven’t played more than 10–15 hours of it, but I follow it. I pretty much have a copy of it everywhere, including Steam and GOG.

So, for me particularly, this wouldn’t change too much. I’d much rather play my GOG copy because of its DRM-free access. But I’m interested in what another storefront does for the game.

What’s Coming to Battle.net?

CD PROJEKT RED announced at BlizzCon 2026 that Cyberpunk 2077 will arrive on Battle.net later this year. Players can buy the base game and Phantom Liberty separately, or get both through the Ultimate Edition. The announcement doesn’t give an exact date or prices.

This gives CD PROJEKT RED exposure to another storefront, but Battle.net makes this particularly interesting. I’ve always associated Battle.net mostly with Blizzard games. You open it to play something like Diablo, Overwatch, or World of Warcraft. So seeing Cyberpunk 2077 sitting alongside those games is going to feel a little strange.

But that also helps answer my original question. For CD PROJEKT RED, Battle.net puts Cyberpunk 2077 in front of another established PC audience. Then you add the Cyberpunk and Witcher crossovers with Blizzard games, and the partnership starts to make more sense than simply putting the game on another storefront.

They’re not redoing the IP. They’re finding another audience for something they already have. I think it’s a good move for them, although I wonder what the price will look like now that the game’s been out for a while.

The Crossovers Add to the Picture

The partnership also includes Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Edgerunners 2 collaborations coming to Overwatch in 2027. Alongside that, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered heads to Battle.net on September 29, with Songs of the Past following in 2027.

Diablo IV is getting a Geralt-themed Barbarian skin tied to eligible Battle.net purchases of Songs of the Past. More Witcher content is coming in 2027.

The crossovers didn’t do too much for me personally, but I’m happy for the players they do affect. You’re leaning on the other side to hopefully bring them over to your side. If that audience likes your product, there’s room for them to pick it up. That’s where I see the opportunity.
