CD PROJEKT RED has released a new trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The anime will premiere exclusively on Netflix on October 20, 2026.
I’m excited for this one. I watched the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and really liked what Studio TRIGGER did with it, especially the action and animation. More than anything, though, I remember how visceral and real the story felt.
What Is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2?
Despite the name, this isn’t a continuation of the original anime. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is a new 10-episode standalone series featuring an entirely new cast fighting their own battles across Night City.
That’s exactly what I expected. I don’t need the original characters to return because I’m looking for another Night City story.
Part of what makes Cyberpunk so interesting is that people can replace or enhance almost anything about themselves. Their bodies can be fixed, but that doesn’t mean their lives can be. Studio TRIGGER didn’t hold back on that brutality in the original anime, and I hope this story feels just as honest.
I’m assuming it’s going to end badly, but that’s also part of what Cyberpunk is about. These stories don’t necessarily give their characters the best ending. Sometimes, they give them the right ending after letting us watch them grow, learn, and change throughout the journey.
Studio TRIGGER is once again collaborating with CD PROJEKT RED on the anime. Kai Ikarashi will direct the series, with a story by Bartosz Sztybor and character designs by Kanno Ichigo. You can watch the new trailer here.
