Final Fantasy Resonance: 10 Beginner Tips and Tricks

The newest Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy Resonance, is out now and available to all players. Whether you are new to the series or a veteran, you will definitely need some pointers as you start your journey. As such, below are 10 easy-to-follow and spoiler-free tips and tricks for playing the game.

1. Always Save at Save Points in Final Fantasy Resonance

This is pretty self-explanatory, but this is mandatory in every JRPG. Considering Final Fantasy Resonance is on the more classical side of things, it uses save points instead of allowing you to save as you please. When you see these, make sure to save your progress, because your next fight could be your last!

2. Use Tents at Save Points Before Bosses

Going alongside with the first tip, Save Points have the ability to use consumable items called “Tents” to restore your HP and MP. Use these when you are right at the end of a dungeon to refresh your team, as there might always be a boss right at the end of one.

3. Always Rest at Inns

When adventuring, you do not want to be reliant on Tents, as if you use one before a boss battle, you will be left high and dry. Instead, if you are grinding XP, doing side quests, or going to a Shrine to unlock a vision, you should fast travel to the nearest town and use an Inn to refresh your team. It only costs a hundred gil, after all.

4. Fast Travel for Side Quests in Final Fantasy Resonance

This is a simple one. But when doing side quests, unless you really need to grind for Gil or XP, fast traveling to where you need to go, if you have the location unlocked, saves a lot of time.

5. Always Sell Your Older Equipment

As you progress in Final Fantasy Resonance, you will always collect consumable items like potions, ethers, phoenix downs, etc. But you will also collect equipment like armor and weapons to keep making your characters stronger. However, if you go to shops and need to buy some other stuff like accessories, selling off your older equipment will give you more Gil to play around with.

6. Make Sure to Do Side Quests as They Pop Up

Side quests in any video game can give you a little bit of everything. More time to enjoy in the world, world-building, new characters to have fun with, and most importantly, rewards. Side quests in Final Fantasy Resonance deliver that in spades. Whether it’s more Gil, new weapons, accessories, summons, and even visions for your characters to use, every side quest is worth doing. Make sure to never skip one; they are very important!

7. Dying to Random Overpowered Bosses? Retry and Escape!

Early on in the game, you may find yourself against mini-bosses that can and will kill you, so let’s talk about how to avoid that. Simply put, escape and come back later. If you cannot escape due to failing, dying, and retrying in the battle, keep trying to escape is the way to go. This will save you any lost time this party wipe would have incurred.

8. Always “Overlevel” in Final Fantasy Resonance

This game is a classic JRPG, so grinding for XP is going to happen. You will need to keep your level up as the story progresses, so running around and fighting will make things easier. Look for Cactuars and mini-bosses; these are going to be your best bet for leveling up quickly. Always be sure to be at least 1 or 2 levels higher than the dungeon in your current story chapter.

9. Take Advantage of Visions

Visions in Final Fantasy Resonance are important; they are characters from past games that have their own abilities and passives to add to the character you equip them to. With this in mind, take advantage of them as best you can. Every character will have pros and cons, so finding abilities that synergize with a character’s kit, like Rain with Cloud or Fina with Terra, is a good combination, as they fill out their ability roster to make up for the lack of a certain elemental ability type, or buff or debuff abilities you will need in boss battles.

It is also worth noting that Visions have passives that give permanent stat boosts and even passive abilities that can be beneficial in the long run. So, if you max out a Vision, swap to another one to start earning more stat boosts and equip the past ones’ passives.

10. Keep Plenty of Phoenix Downs Ready

Depending on the difficulty you choose (I am playing on Normal), you will die a good number of times. To combat this, make sure you have a good amount of these items ready to revive your fallen allies to keep the battle going. Also, keep a Vision equipped that has healing abilities ready to keep your team alive in tougher fights.
