There’s nothing like a nice horror game to bring the scary vibes during Halloween. We here at Lords of Gaming love a good jump scare every now and then. Here are the team’s best horror games to play during the spooky season.
Directive 8020 – Cerebral Paul, Assistant Editor

When I’ve previously been asked, “What’s a great spooky game to play?” my instant response was always Alien Isolation. While that game remains a solid option, this past May, Supermassive Games released Directive 8020, giving me a newer title to suggest. Directive 8020 will have you sitting on the edge of your seat while you try to get you and your crew home safely and survive an unknown alien threat. My full review can be found HERE.
F.E.A.R. 2 – Chris Jones, Social Media Manager & Senior Writer

If there is ever a game that has ever genuinely scared me, it would be when I played F.E.A.R. 2 on Xbox 360. I had a unique bedroom layout where my room was between the kitchen and garage, so I could have my side door open when it was storming for added effect.
So when I played F.E.A.R. 2, I would make sure all the lights were off and the door was open, but bonus points if it was storming. Nothing is scarier than walking down the hallways in F.E.A.R. 2 and having lockers get blown open or something randomly coming out of nowhere and jumping at the screen.
The aesthetic and horror aspect of F.E.A.R. 2 always had me on the edge of my seat when I played it and genuinely scared at times. Haven’t played in years, BUT I know if I were to jump back into it once more, it would have me on the edge of my seat!
Resident Evil 7 – James Wynne-Johnston, Contributor

Spooky season for me is one of the best times of the year, and there is a multitude of games that I like to play during that period that just make it feel more festive in that regard.
For me, one of the games that I love to play every year at this time of the year is Resident Evil 7. As much as I love the others, this one is terrifying to play with the lights off and on any difficulty. That is because, unlike the other games, you are not trained to fight against things that go bump in the night. So, it’s a lot more realistic for how it would be for any one of us in that situation. Very similar to what the main character is like in the latest file!
If you are looking to take it to the next level, I would highly recommend playing the VR version of the game. That version will get the heart pumping during this spooky and scary season.
End of Abyss – Mahmood Ghaffar, Editor-in-Chief
Few games feel as perfectly suited to Halloween as End of Abyss. Its oppressive atmosphere, eerie sound design, and constant sense of unease create the kind of experience that thrives during spooky season. From the moment you step into its dark, interconnected world, you’re surrounded by unsettling environmental storytelling, distant creature noises echoing through the corridors, and the lingering feeling that something terrible happened long before your arrival.
The game captures the same tension that made classics like Dead Space so memorable, making every new area feel both fascinating and frightening. Based on the review, the game’s atmosphere is its greatest strength, creating suspense that keeps players on edge even when no enemies are present.
Alice Madness Returns – Robert Kellett, Assistant Editor-in-Chief

It’s that time of the year again for spooky games, and one of my favorites is Alice Madness Returns. Taking the original Alice in Wonderland story, it twists it into a mind-bending action platformer with striking imagery and bloody action. It’s a standout experience that I can easily recommend, more so thanks to it including the original ‘Alice’ game, which itself is run on the Quake engine.
