DirectML

Last month Microsoft confirmed the Xbox Series X will be utilizing cutting edge AMD’s Zen2 and RDNA 2.0 technology. They also confirmed 12 TFlops of compute performance for their new console which is also extremely impressive. We now have an AMD Engineer calling Xbox’s next-generation main chip the most complex SoC ever created. This information is courtesy of twitter user @blueisviolet who has found one AMD’s Lead Engineer’s LinkedIn page where he claims to have worked on:

“leading verification for one of the most complex SOCs to support future gaming consoles”.

Later in the post, he describes the work that has been done for Microsoft which suggests the Xbox Series X SoC.

This is not the first time we have learned that the Xbox Series X chip is going to be utilizing new tech. Jason Ronald, an Xbox Series X team lead, during a podcast with Xbox’s Major Nelson shared that the next-generation Xbox will utilize AMD’s most cutting edge technology. Microsoft did confirm ZEN2, RDNA 2.0, VRS, and Ray Tracing to be utilized for their new console which does indeed scream “cutting edge” for sure.
