Tax Collector Leads a Small Weekend Box Office
The box office has been decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Usually, around this time of the year, there should have been plenty of Summer blockbusters grossing millions and even billions of dollars. This weekend, the limited box office was lead by The Tax Collector. The movie casts Shia Lebouf as its lead and it seemed like it was going to be direct to video.
With most theaters closed around the country, it seems that drive-inn theaters are the place to be. This past weekend four movies have grossed some money at the box office. For the most part, most of the movies that have been making money during this pandemic are re-releases of older movies. Those included Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Goonies, and Ghostbusters.
Weekend Top Three
1. The Tax Collector – $317,000
2. The Rental – $123,744
3. The Big Ugly – $77,000
Right now, the top world-wide movies for 2020 include Sonic the Hedgehog, Bad Boys for Life, Birds of Prey, and Dolittle. My hope for the future is to keep this article going each week. With the limited amount of movies being released, it might not be easy to do. Yet, I did this for another site for four years and I hope to bring it here to the Lords of Gaming.
