With the ack of movies being released, The Croods: A New Age was able to take the top spot. This year’s box office is slowly getting movies. Judas and the Black Messiah also released this weekend, but it was unable to take the top spot. The Little Things is sitting right behind these two movies.
Judas and the Black Messiah was able to gross an estimated $2 million this weekend. The movie was also released on HBO Max, and is one of those movies that will not benefit from having a streaming release. The Croods: A New Age grossed $2,040,000 million this weekend. I truly do not understand how this movie is still making some much money in its thirteen-weeks in theaters. The only movie that has been out longer, The War With Grandpa, currently grossed $180,287. That movie has been in theaters for nineteen weeks. At some point, you would think most of these movies would be well below $1 million at the box office.
In the foreign market this weekend, the movie Detective Chinatown 3 destroyed the Chinese box office. Showing that the foreign theaters are starting to gain an audience, this movie had $397 million in its opening weekend. It was able to top Avengers: Endgame opening weekend in the country. The film grossed $357 million back in April 2019. It is just great to see movies getting a chance to be released in theaters again to a healthy market. I did write an opinion piece that said the theaters would not have a great comeback. This movie has proven to me and others that we did not have the patience to wait and see.
Weekend Top Three
3. The Little Things $1.8 million
2. Judas and the Black Messiah $2 million
1. The Croods: A New Age $2,040,000 million
Marvel is still saying Black Widow is going to be released in theaters. With a look at the foreign market jumping back up, waiting was a great decision for Marvel. Black Widow should easily make some money back when it gets released later this year. The next big release is still a couple of weeks out. Tom and Jerry will be released on February 26th in theaters and on HBO Max.
