This week Sony held a game-specific State of Play son Horizon Forbidden WestThe follow up to the 2017 Sony first-party gem courtesy of Sony Studio, Guerrilla Games. The video delivered 14 minutes of gameplay footage. The gameplay takes returning protagonist Aloy through part of a quest to recover a kidnapped friend. On the way to what appears to be a boss from an early part of the game, a barrage of new details trickle out along the way.

Right away you will notice the stunning new visuals in Horizon Forbidden West. The environments, the weapons, the enemies, and the armor are all digging deeper into the color palette. The HDR is brighter and more vibrant than ever. Along with the new paint job comes some new gameplay mechanics. Aloy is now equipped with the ability to glide, swim, as well as swing from a grappling hook. Watching the footage, you can really tell they are building on everything from Horizon Zero Dawn.

Following today’s State of Play, Horizon Forbidden West Narrative Director, Ben McCaw, detailed the video update over on the PlayStation Blog. Leaving those wondering about the lack of a release date a small tease. “Thanks for watching our Horizon Forbidden West gameplay reveal! We don’t have an exact release date yet, but development is on track and we’ll have an update for you very soon.” This comes after a recent Wired article where Sony doubles down on the Horizon Forbidden West 2021 release window. Could this mean another trailer is coming this summer?
