A New Light – Destiny 2 Expansions Free-To-Play Until June 3rd
Destiny 2 is a game that has been around for two generations, three if you include the original on PS3/360. Building on a foundation over the years, the game is getting it’s climatic ‘Endgame’ moment June 4th when The Final Shape releases. But to catch many up, Bungie is giving access to prior expansions for free.
Destiny 2 Expansions Free-To-Play
Tearing down the walls for newcomers to the franchise, three of the four currently released expansions are free-to-play on all platforms. Sony/Bungie has said the following;
Prepare for The Final Shape with three epic campaigns and earn an arsenal of exotic and legendary gear. Experience Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansions, now in Open Access and available to all players May 7 – June 3, 2024.
Also worth noting is that if you have PlayStation Plus Essential, you can get the Lightfall expansion as well. So between PlayStation Plus Essential and this open trial, anyone curious about the series can give it an earnest shot.
Overall Thoughts
As someone who isn’t really that into first person shooters, save for the odd Halo Infinite session here and there, the game always caught my eye. Thanks to services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, I did try some of the Expansions but never finished them.
With all four expansions available via this open trial and PlayStation Plus, myself and many others should consider giving the series a chance. On-boarding is a major issue with Destiny 2 and doing moves like this to tear down the walls will only help Bungie.
Making ease of access possible for Destiny 2 will do a lot to get new players and lapsed players into the game. Plus, current players can enjoy a large influx of players for major modes like Raids and more.
