Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Officially Announced
The biggest kept secret in the gaming universe has finally been announced. Rockstar has quietly spent the past few years remastering Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. They plan to release them this year under the collection, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
All jokes aside, following a number of leaks this summer, Rockstar confirmed its plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the biggest franchise in video games. The three games will be coming together in one pack on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles, the Nintendo Switch, and the Rockstar Games Launcher (PC).
It seems as if Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is not going to be a cash grab port of the 20-year-old games. There are both visual and gameplay enhancements coming to all three titles. Plus, the Xbox Series and PS5 console versions are a good sign of their intentions. Rockstar went on to describe the remasters in its press release:
“Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will feature across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals. We’re extremely excited to share more about these groundbreaking titles in the coming weeks — stay tuned!”
As part of the launch of the new release, existing versions of all three games will be pulled from their digital storefronts.
If you are looking to own a digital copy of these games in their original state, now is your last chance.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will release later this year. Rockstar should have another update soon, as the GTA III anniversary is on October 22nd.
