Xbox Series Console Prices Have Now Been Raised In Sweden

Inflation has been driving prices of just about every retail item through the roof. Whether you are buying a new vehicle, or just doing your grocery shopping you have likely noticed a price increase across the board. We are almost now 3 years into the latest gaming generation of PlayStation and Xbox, typically we would start to see slight price drops in order to entice consumers to pick one up. But due to chip shortages and lack of supply at the original launch, demand has remained high and hardware makers PlayStation and Xbox haven’t had to decrease their costs. Quite the opposite actually, as PlayStation increased the price of the PlayStation 5 worldwide aside from the United States in 2022. Xbox also increased the price of Xbox Series X and S consoles in Japan earlier this year. It appears this Xbox price hike does not stop in Japan, however.

Sweden Sees The Next Price Increase For Xbox Series Consoles

It was reported by VGC today that Sweden has quietly seen its Xbox Series consoles see a price hike. Xbox Series X was being sold for 5,695 SEK ($550 USD) and will now be sold for 6195 SEK ($599 USD). The Xbox Series S also received a price hike going from 3595 SEK ($347 USD) to 3894 SEK ($376). While there has been no official statement from Microsoft in regards to these price increases. It is likely driven by the falling Swedish Kronor which is down in comparison to the USD by over 10% over the past year.

As inflation continues to drive prices of consumer products upwards, it is likely this isn’t the last price increase we see from Microsoft. It appears both PlayStation and Xbox want to avoid raising the prices of the consoles within the United States market, which is the most competitive market for these hardware manufacturers. But at the current rate of how costs are rising, it will be interesting to see how long both of the major platform holders hold off increasing prices in the United States market. Only time will tell.
