Outlast Trials Enters Early Access
The lengthy wait for the new Outlast title is nearly over. Originally announced in 2019, development studio Red Barrels has been quietly chipping away Outlast Trials ever since. A new trailer full of shrieks and screams announces a date for early access release. Those waiting in anticipation can get their hands on the game as early as May 18th, 2023. Details of the full release are currently unknown.
An Amusement Park of Horror in Outlast Trials
Set in the 1950s during the early days of the Murkoff Corporation. Players assume the role of a human guinea pig and are launched into a series of deadly scenarios within the facility’s testing grounds. Exposed to highly unethical and terribly dangerous experiments, players must use their wits to outsmart enemies, solve puzzles, and escape.
While earlier installments were limited to single-player only, Outlast Trials seeks to bring the experience online. A beta held in October 2022 gave players a glimpse of the new four-player structure, and it seems to be absolutely thrilling. The game also adopts the feel of an amusement park ride by sending players into an assortment of themed levels, each with its own colorful antagonists. The beta from last year showcased the deeply grotesque county jail level and hinted at much more to come.
Perhaps sacrilegious to diehard fans, Outlast Trials departs from the pacifist gameplay of the original two games. While maintaining the core cat-and-mouse style of the originals, players are now given an assortment of tools and traps to temporarily ward off violent pursuers. Therefore, item management and cooperation become key to survival. Work together or die together.
Outlast Trials will enter early access on May 18th on Steam and the Epic Game Store.
