This past weekend Shazam Fury of the Gods opened up with a smaller amount of money than originally thought. It seems that this restructuring of DC has damaged the properties coming out before Chapter One. Or fans just don’t seem to care about this movie? We’ll find out when The Flash comes out this Summer.
Over the last few weekends, we have seen numerous movies take over that top spot. From Creed III to Scream VI, fans have been coming back to the theaters. While we don’t see pre-Covid numbers yet. It is safe to say that the theater is coming back. Shazam! Fury of the Gods had a decent opening that was well under the expected number. It opened at $30.1 million domestically and $34.6 million internationally. That gives this DC movie a worldwide total of $66.4 million.
Scream VI came in second place with $17 million. That puts this film at $117 million worldwide. Fans of the series like me have been waiting for this movie to be released on the digital market. I’ve already pre-ordered the movie at $19.99. We should be seeing a seventh movie in the next couple of years. Creed III landed in third place with $15.3 million this past weekend. That gives this film a worldwide total of $225 million.
Weekend Top Three
3. Creed III $15.3 million
2. Scream VI $17 million
1. Shazam Fury of the Gods $30.1 million
This coming weekend the fourth John Wick movie will be released. Some of the early reviews that have come out are extremely positive. This film should easily make at least $50 million in its first weekend. Look for All of Those Voices and The Lost King to be released as well. Then the following weekend fans finally get the Dungeon and Dragons movie that they deserve. Fans can read about those characters here in a recently released book.
