Tears of the Kingdom – How to Upgrade Your Battery Life
When we look back at Tears of the Kingdom and its launch week, we’re going to fondly remember two things. First, we’ll remember the Geneva Convention Violations against the Koroks, and the next, the wild machines we made.
Those machines run on attachable batteries and Link’s rechargeable battery. Starting out, Link’s personal battery doesn’t have much charge, but you can get more batteries with Energy Wells. Here’s how to get the Wells:
Step One: Explore the Depths
Tears of the Kingdom brings you skyward and underground. Thanks to the sky islands, Hyrule has copious holes littered through its ground. Fall into them. You’ll arrive in the Depths, a massive, expansive underground area filled with Zonai ruins and Gloom patches throughout.
Most important to battery expansion, you’ll find tons of Zonaite slabs. These slabs can be broken down into smaller pieces and traded in to Zonai Forge Constructs for Crystallized Charges. When you accrue a hundred charges, you’re ready to expand that battery.
The first Forge Construct works on the Great Sky Island, better known as the tutorial area. It has basic Charges for three basic Zonaite pieces each. Large Charges, equivalent to 20 basic charges, can be found at other Forge Constructs. One such construct pops up in Josha’s mainline quest, but also sits near a hole on the Great Plateau.
Regardless, when you get 100 Charges, go back up, it’s time for step two.
Step Two: Find the Crystal Refinery
Good news: the Crystal Refinery sits right next to a Tower. Specifically, it sits next to the Lookout Landing Tower, the main hub of Tears of the Kingdom. Leave out the North door where Josha’s office is. Hyrule Castle should be directly in front of you.
Look right, and a Zonai ruin will be right there. Climb it, and find the Refining Construct on top. Give it the 100 Charges and in return you’ll get the Energy Well. Each new battery takes three Wells to complete, but you can still use the Wells once you get them.
To flesh out your battery, rinse, lather, and repeat.
