Nearly ten years ago, Battlefield 4 brought 64-player matches to console-first person shooter games. This month, Mordhau brings 64-player matches to medieval combat on console.
Triterion Games announced that their “Medieval MMO” will launch on Xbox and PlayStation consoles on July 12th. They wrote in a press release: “Expect blood and limbs to fly in a frenzied battlefield when medieval melee combat game Mordhau launches on PlayStation and Xbox on July 12th. With crossplay exclusively available among consoles, all players will have a level playing field to dominate in this 64-player action game,”
“Prepare for epic battles in the console edition of Mordhau, where players must choose between hand-to-hand combat or ranged attacks to dominate the battlefield. Players can expect hardcore gore, with severed limbs littering the battlefield, arrows pelting down, and cavalry charging headfirst to break through the toughest defenses. Victory can be achieved in many ways, but players will have to think on their feet and fight on multiple fronts like scaling ladders or taking control of catapults to outsmart their foes.”
Mordhau Imagines Big Battles in Medieval Times
Players can customize their solider how they want. Additionally, players can also customize weapons to their hearts’ desire.
Much like PC players, console players can expect to see both big-scale and smaller-scale game modes. Big modes include “Invasion,” “Frontline,” and “Horde” One side attacks and the other defends in “Invasion.” “Frontline” plays like a bloody tug-of-war where teams advance or retreat if their holds are overrun. Finally, “Horde” is a survival mode where players defend their nobles against wave-after-wave of foes.
Smaller modes include “Deathmatch,” “Team Deathmatch,” and “Skirmish”. Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are races to rack up a set amount of kills in a time-limit. Skirmish, is a round-by-round last-team standing mode.
Triterion Games Has Earned a Following on PC
PC gamers may be familiar with Triterion Games. The Slovenia-based studio launched their Medieval MMO on PC platforms in 2019. Since then, the game has grown in popularity, selling over a million copies in its first month.
Mordhau releases on Xbox and PlayStation on July 12th.
