We were at PlayNYC this weekend and went hands-on with a few dozen indie games from small up-and-coming teams. Among them is an action rouge-like called Mu: Dead Wind. The game is being developed by one person, Seung-Whan from British Columbia, Canada. This will be the fourth game from SW and it will be coming to PC and consoles in late 2024.

From the games Developer blog,

Mu: Dead Wind’ is a third-person action game with rogue-lite elements, unfolding in the haunting settings of 17th-century Korea. As a shaman, you traverse a ghost-filled world with your fan and spirit bell, battling spectral forces intent on draining your life energy. Embark on an ever-changing adventure, engaging in intense battles against unpredictable foes. In ‘Mu: Dead Wind,’ the secrets of this ghostly world unravel as you discover and harness the ancient powers that reside within you.

Mu: Dead Wind is inspired by Joseon-era Korea and has some horror elements. The developer’s use of Unreal 5 lighting has made a nice atmosphere. As for the gameplay, it is rouge-like with hand-crafted procedurally generated levels. Plus, SW has composed an authentic Korean score that is designed to adapt to your gameplay.

In MDW, you play as a Shaman on a quest to cleanse the Korean-inspired region of ghosts. The story and gameplay loop is heavily inspired by PS2-era horror games and, Korean horror. Look for more news as we get closer to its release date next year.
