Pokemon Battle Team Setup: Sacramento Regionals 24′
After a couple of months off we are back again. We have another Pokemon Doubles Battle Team for you. I am always looking for teams that peak my interest and this team was one of them. The team we are going to talk about is the champion team from the 2024 Sacramento Regionals on October 15th, 2023. Yes, the 2024 Regional in 2023. Michael Zhang piloted the team we are getting ready to talk about. So let’s get right into the champion Pokmeon team from the Sacramento regionals!
Team Characteristics
Now before any new readers say something about the levels being different, I’ll explain. When you do competitive Pokemon battles levels all usually get set to 50. So it doesn’t matter that our Arcanine is only level 5 or that the levels all fluctuate. Everyone will be set to level 50 for the competitive battles. This team has some cool things going on here. We have Komm-o who is a massive tank with high Hit Points and Defense. Tyranitar is also a tank that can be a primary damage dealer. Arcanine, Flutter Mane, and especially Iron Bundle all have high Speed stats.
Rillaboom can taunt the opposing Pokemon preventing the use of staus moves. Quark Drive and Bulletproof are good abilities to have against many teams. It’s all about picking and choosing your spot. Not only that but combining the right 2 team members for the right situation leads to good results. All the abilities have proven to be very good. The team is very well crafted.
Arcanine
The first Pokemon on our team is the Rock/Fire-type Arcanine. Arcanine is a female with the Intimidate ability. When someone with this ability enters the battlefield, it lowers the opposing Pokemon’s Attack. She is also holding a Sitrus Berry which heals for 25% of her maximum HP. It will trigger when under 50% Health. To some people out there Arcanine has always been considered a “Psuedo Legendary.” Even though it is not a legendary Pokemon. Aracnine’s best stats are her Speed and Attack
The moves Arcanine has are Rock Slide, Howl, Will-O-Wisp, and Flare Blitz. Rock Slide is a damage-dealing move that will damage all adjacent opposing targets. Howl will raise the user’s Attack stat by one stage. Will-O-Wisp will inflict the burn status on the target. Flare Blitz is a strong Fire-type move that deals damage and causes recoil damage to the user. Arcanine is weak to Fighting and Rock-type Pokemon. She is super weak to Water and Ground-types though.
Flutter Mane
The second Pokemon on the team is one you have seen a lot. The Ghost/Fairy-type Flutter Mane once again graces our team. Flutter Mane has the ability Protosynthesis. Protosynthesis boosts its most proficient stat in harsh sunlight or if it is holding Booster Energy. Choice Specs is the item Flutter Mane is holding. Choice Specs boosts the holder’s Special Attack by 50% but only allows the use of the first move chosen. This tends to be the general Flutter Mane consensus that I see. The highest stats for Flutter Mane are Speed and Special Attack.
Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball, Moonblast, and Psyshock are the moves Flutter Mane knows. Dazzling Gleam is a damage-dealing Fairy-type move. Shadow Ball is a damage-dealing move that has a 20% chance to reduce the target’s Special Defense. Moonblast is an attacking move that may lower the target’s Special Attack Stat. Psyshock is a unique move because even though it’s Special it uses the target’s Defense instead of their Special Defense. Flutter Mane is weak to Ghost and Steel-type Pokemon.
Iron Bundle
The third Pokemon on the team is the Ice/Water-type Iron Bundle. Iron Bundle has the ability of Quark Drive. When a Pokemon has Quark Drive and is on the field with Electric Terrain active, or the Pokemon is holding Booster Energy, its highest stat is increased by 30%, or 50% if Speed is the highest stat. This doesn’t include Hit Points. It prioritizes Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, in that order. Quark Drive is one of the new abilities that is always being researched. The Booster Energy Iron Bundle is holding activates its ability. Iron Bundle has a really high Speed stat and has a good Special Attack stat as well.
The moves Iron Bundle knows are Protect, Freeze-Dry, Hydro Pump, and Icy Wind. Protect enables the user to protect themselves from all attacks. However, its chance of failing rises if it is used in succession. Freeze-Dry deals damage and has a 10% chance to freeze the target. Hydro Pump is a strong Water-type attack. Icy Wind is a move that hits all opposing Pokemon and lowers their Speed stat. Iron Bundle is weak to Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Rock-types.
Rillaboom
Next up on our team is the Grass-type Pokemon Rillaboom. Rillaboom is a female with the Grassy Surge ability. Someone with the Grassy Surge ability turns the terrain into Grassy Terrain. He is holding a Miracle Seed that boosts the power of Grass-type moves. It’s always nice to see a starter evolution on a Battle Team. The best stats for Rillaboom are his Hit Points and Attack.
The moves Rillaboom has are Wood Hammer, Grassy Glide, Fake Out, and Body Press. Wood Hammer is a strong grass move that causes recoil damage to the user. Grassy Glide is an attacking move that gets a benefit if the ground is Grassy Terrain. Fake Out hits first and makes the target flinch. It works only on the first turn each time the user enters battle. Taunt makes the target unable to use status moves. Rillaboom is weak to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug-type Pokemon.
Kommo-o
Next up on our team is the Dragon/Fighting-type Pokemon Kommo-o. Kommo-o is a female with Bullet Proof ability. If you have Bulletproof you are protected from Ball and Bomb-type moves. She is also holding leftovers which gradually heals Hit Points over time. She is one of our tanks. Her highest stats are Hit Points and Defense. Protect, Iron Defense, Iron Head, and Body Press are the moves she knows.
Protect enables the user to protect themselves from all attacks. However, its chance of failing rises if it is used in succession. Iron Defense raises the user’s Defense stat by two stages. Iron Head deals damage and has a 30% chance to cause the target to flinch. Body Press inflicts damage, but it uses the user’s Defense stat instead of its Attack stat to calculate damage. Kommo-o is weak to Ice, Flying, and Psychic-type Pokemon. She is super weak to Fairy-types.
Tyranitar
The last Pokemon on the team is the Rock/Dark-type Tyranitar. Tyranitar is a female with the Sand Stream ability. When someone with Sand Stream enters the battlefield it causes a sandstorm to start which deals damage over time unless not affected. Tyranitar has an Assault Vest which raises the holder’s Special Defense by 50%. But also prevents the holder from selecting any status move except Me First. Attack and Hit Points are the highest stats for Tyranitar. Rock Slide, Tera Blast, Kock Off, and Low Kick are the moves for Tyranitar.
Rock Slide is a damage-dealing move that will damage all adjacent opposing targets. Tera Blast deals damage. If the user’s Attack stat is higher than its Special Attack stat, Tera Blast becomes a physical move when Terastallized; otherwise, it remains a special move. Knock Off deals damage and makes the target’s item unusable for the battle. Low Kick is a damaging move that has a 30% chance of causing a flinch. Tyranitar is weak to Water, Grass, Ground, Bug, Steel, and Fairy-type Pokemon. She is super weak to Fighting types.
Wrap-Up
It feels nice to be back talking about Pokemon teams once again. This team was fun to play and out of 10 battles, I won 8 of them which isn’t bad at all. I thought I was going to be a little rusty, but the team helped me through. Iron Bundle and Flutter Mane put in a lot of work and they are two Pokemon that I enjoy a lot. I am always looking for unique and fun teams to try out. Shout out to Michael Zhang for this great team. So if you have any teams or ideas feel free to message me or comment below. Make sure to stay tuned for all upcoming future battle teams.
