This year has been a tremendous year for Warframe. Following the lead of last year’s Veilbreaker, then the massive Duviri Paradox release, the content train for the game hasn’t stopped and with its next expansion on the horizon. It looks as though its only going to get better. Whispers in the Walls is the next expansion for the game and there is a lot shrouded in mystery. Granted, this is mostly due to the fact they need to keep some important stuff in the dark. Such as the new syndicate and the story details. But there is so much we do know.
From some of the story details, how the new zone works and more, here is everything we know about Whispers in the Walls.
A Story of Albrecht Entrati and The Man in the Wall
For starters, you will need to have finished The New War, and The Heart of Deimos quests.
The story of Whispers in the Walls will focus on Albrecht Entrati. A legendary scientist from within the deep lore of Warframe. The most we know about him was from the audio logs within the Necralisk. The story will dive into where he’s gone and why. This story, on the flip side will also focus on “The Man in the Wall”. A character that has been referenced so many times throughout the games main story. Going so far as to directly cause the Zariman incident.
The Man in the Wall has a lot of direct influence and ties into a lot of narrative themes of cosmic horror. But there is a caveat for the story. It will only last about an hour and a half according to the most recent Devstream. This means the story may leave off at a cliffhanger for Warframe: 1999 next year.
Whispers in the Walls will also expand the Necralisk and add a new hub, The Sanctuary. This new hub will feature the human version of Loid. As well as new characters we do not know of. The sanctuary will let players access a variety of new missions. As well as some new rewards, such as the 55th warframe, Qorvex.
All New Missions, and a New Warframe
The Sanctuary will give players access to a new split tileset between two different biomes. The Entrati Labs, will give players a new procedurally generated tileset that merges with this sand filled concrete biome. The two different biomes will be navigated seamlessly and will hold some secrets to be uncovered. There will be three new missions to playthrough:
- Alchemy: This will be a new endless mode where you have to mix elemental concoctions.
- Netracells: Netracells will be a new activity that has weekly bonus rewards, such as archon shards. This will be a four player focused activity as there will be four major debuffs to pick up before starting the activity. Not much more is known about how it all functions, but the extra archon shard a week will be very beneficial!
- The Fragmented Tide Assassination Mission: This mission will be a remix on classic assassination missions where you need to do special objectives to trigger the boss fight against The Fragmented Tide. This boss fight was shown off during TennoLive.
There will also be an expansion on the enemy Necramech faction, as well a new nightmarish Murmur faction.
The 55th warframe, Qorvex will be making his arrival in the update. Here are his abilities:
- Chyrinka Pillar: Summons a pillar that deals periodic radiation damage to enemies. You can summon two of these.
- Containment Wall: Summons two walls around enemies and collapses them together while dealing damage.
- Disometric Guard: Buffs allies and Qorvex by nullifying status effects for a period of time.
- Crucible Blast: Fires a radiation beam from Qorvex’s chest and makes him invincible while its casted.
- Stats are focused on armor and health.
- His passive gives innate radiation damage to his weapons.
Qorvex will be earnable through the new syndicate. Alongside his signature archgun. There will also be some new and interesting rewards from the quest itself. Such as the new Grimoire weapon, and Tennokai.
Grimoire and Tennokai Details
The Grimoire will be earned in the Whispers in the Walls quest. This weapon will be the first new secondary weapon in a long time. It will feature an aura mod slot to access new buffs for warframes and abilities. It will also feature new mods exclusive to the grimoire. There will also be a new heavy hammer added to the game, as well as potentially new Incarnon weapons.
The next reward will be “TennoKai”, a new heavy melee system. Tennokai will add a random triggerable heavy melee swing while you are performing normal melee attacks. This will be unlocked via a new exilus mod slot in every melee weapon. There will be a variety of Tennokai mods that either remove the randomness and add a guarantee to a certain number of strikes, or make the random proc happen more often. Tennokai also works on gunblades. A new arcane slot will be added to all melee weapons, Zaw rivens do not work on them.
Also coming in this update will be Arcane Dissolution. Which allows you to break down unwanted or unused arcanes into a resource to buy packs of random arcanes from specific factions to try and earn arcanes you want. There will also be a new Archon Shard fusion system, unlocking three new archon shard styles to mix into your builds. This works on Tauforged shards also.
Finally there will be a new Clan Operation: Gargoyles Cry.
Details on Gargoyles Cry in Warframe
Gargoyles Cry is going to be a new clan operation focused on the aftereffects of Whispers in the Walls. This seems to have a lot of narrative elements tied to it, it will come with an exclusive greek wreath Signa as an earnable reward. Clan dojos will be important specifically to the operation, how is unclear.
Finally, there will be of course new cosmetics. Such as Sevagoth Deluxe that comes with exclusive music for when you are using his shadow. As well as a shoulder armor that has a cute fish, this is important, I promise you. Finally, you can buy a gene-masking kit that will make your kavats look like Albrecht Entrati’s kavat, Kalymos.
Release Date for Whispers in the Walls
As of right now, there is no confirmed release date. Just a release window for this month, but Digital Extremes will be at The Game Awards showing off a new trailer for Whispers in the Walls. This trailer may have the release date and I speculate it may be the week following the awards show. This is just speculation however, it could be much later or be delayed into next month, similar to Gauss, Akarius and Acceltra Prime.
Finally, Whispers in the Walls will be a free update to Warframe, launching simultaneously on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, The Epic Games Store and PlayStation 4|5.
