During the Nintendo Partner Showcase on Wednesday, a lot of awesome games were shown for the Nintendo Switch. Such as Epic Mickey: Rebrushedand GroundedBut one title that stood out to me was the revealed Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. Considering at the tail end of 2022, I picked up and beat the game. It was a pretty unique JRPG with old school rock in its battle music. As well as a very unforgiving yet rewarding combat system. But in terms of its overall reception, it seems like it missed the mark for a lot of people.

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, however, looks to be a re-release in the same vein as Persona 5 Royal. Where they aim to make significant improvements to the overall experience. While also adding in a whole new storyline which seems interesting. But what all is coming in this new version of the game?

A Second Story Route

The most notable addition in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance is the second story route. You can choose this from the beginning of the game, and it will offer a new storyline after a certain point in the original story. You can still replay the original story if you so choose to.

This will be the “Canon of Vengeance”. This will take you down a wholly different story involving a group of four demons called the Qaditsu. Obviously not a lot of details were shared regarding how this story will go.

The Canon of Vengeance will have its own ending. Alongside new locations and a new character named Yoko that will join the Nahobino in his journey in this new route.

They also emphasized both routes will be equal in their average playtime. Which they claimed was 80 hours long. But there is not just new locations and story content being added. There are also a lot of cool new gameplay mechanics being added.

Updated Combat for Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance

The Magatsuhi mechanic is getting a whole slew of new Demon-centered attacked. In the spotlight they showed a King Frost summoning the other two variants of Jack Frost in a special move. As well as a Tam Lin throwing their javelin at a group of enemies.

Each demon will also have unique skills to use in normal combat. There will also be a whole slew of over 40 new Demons to recruit and craft through the fusion system. Such as the Nahobiho, a Jack Frost that looks and fights like the Nahobino.

Your ally Demons can be found while exploring Da’at. This mechanic may function similar to how it did in Soul Hackers 2. Where they will give you items and maybe other Demons to recruit. The auto-battle system is being improved to be more reliable considering the games combat system.

They then capped it off by detailing what more is coming in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance.
