Yesterday, Atlus premiered a new near 14-minute trailer for their upcoming game Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. A fully updated version of the original game that was exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. This new version of the title will include many new improvements, fixes and more content. Such as new locations, demons, and new Magatsuhi skills. But the key addition to this new version of the game will be a new optional main storyline you can choose over the original. With just a month before the game fully launches, they released a “Complete Guide” for everything new coming to the game, and below will be a breakdown of the most important bits.
Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance Complete Guide Trailer Breakdown
They started off by clarifying how you can choose between the two main stories. You will have the option of:
- Canon of Creation.
- Canon of Vengeance.
The Canon of Creation storyline will be the original story of Shin Megami Tensei 5. While Canon of Vengeance will be the new story included exclusively for Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. At the beginning of a new game, you will be given the option to take the hand of a character or not. Taking their hand will initiate the Canon of Vengeance storyline. While not taking their hand will begin the Canon of Creation storyline.
The Canon of Creation storyline will feature a traditional Shin Megami Tensei story. Where the player will be focused on taking down multiple gods and demons to recreate the world.
While Canon of Vengeance will focus on a more personal tale. Centered around 4 female demons as they set out to create a world of their own.
They also clarified that all enhancements made while making Canon of Vengeance will be added to the Canon of Creation.
They then went onto detail the breadth of demons and all new skills, and traits coming to the game.
Over 270 Demons, and New Skills
Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance will feature over 270 demons, with of mixture of new and old demons across past titles to fight or recruit.
They also explained that every demon will have their own unique skills and traits.
In fact, for the Magatsuhi system, depending on how you comprise your team, you will have team abilities that deliver devastating blows to enemies.
They also mentioned that if you make specific compositions of certain demons. Doing so will offer passives that can boost your skills and survivability.
They also went in depth on the new “Demon Haunts” system.
Talk with your Demons and More
In Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance you will encounter special areas called “Demon Haunts”. Demon Haunts will allow you to talk to your demons and grow your relationship with them. Doing so will enhance their stats and abilities.
You can also talk to Aogami, who is the character that fuses with the main character to make him the Nahobino.
Doing so will grant your more stat points to spend and potential upgrades to your abilities. Think of it like the Social Link system from the Persona series.
You can also encounter characters from the story and talk with them. This will allow you to get a better understanding of them, and hopefully other goodies.
They capped this segment off by talking about the new photo mode. The photo mode will only be available in demon haunts and certain interactions in the game.
Capping this all off, they went in depth on 50 new features and adjustments outside of what has been detailed before this point.
50 New Features in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance
I will not be detailing all 50 features here, but I will be highlighting the most important bits. Starting with the new Magatsuhi Demons, which will be elite enemies that when defeated grant you incense. Which increases stats for your demons.
Next up is the Magatsu Rails. These will grant easier access to certain locations in the game.
You can also unlock the level cap of 99 to 150. There will be certain conditions to do so, but that was not explained in the trailer.
You can also unlock the Demi-Fiend, who was the main character Shin Megami Tensei 3 after doing specific things in the game.
Also new to Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance is the addition of consecutive encounters. If you are targeted by multiple enemies when exploring and get caught, you can fight multiple groups of enemies back-to-back for more exp and money.
When trying to recruit demons, they can sometimes quiz and take stuff you give them for more variety.
You can now reset the Nahobinos stats with certain items.
There are now certain demons that will be locked behind fusion accidents.
There will be two new locations, an open area called Shinjuku. As well as Shakan, a new dungeon.
When exploring the world, you can also find husks of Aogami’s. These will be the way you earn essences to unlock new skills for the Nahobino.
You can now revisit tutorials in the menu if you want to relearn certain systems.
There will now be map markers for some subquests in the game.
When inspecting demon essences, you can now see if you own them. As well as other various details.
You can now enter a “Sky-View” mode to get a better look of the surrounding area instead of having to go to your map all the time.
When doing subquests, you can now see what level is recommended for it.
You can now save anywhere, or simply still use the Leylines when fast traveling between them.
Finally, they talked about an extreme difficulty mode you can unlock called “Godborn”. In this new mode every enemy will be bumped up to level 150.
