What is Bungo Bash?
As described on the game’s Steam Page, Bungo Studios stated the following;
A 3D platform fighter where you can battle your friends as wacky animal champions called BUNGOS. Play online or locally across vibrant battle stages in the world of Bungalow. Do you have what it takes to become a BUNGO master in Bungo Bash?
Bungo Studio’s Comments
While I was unable to get hands-on with the title at my time at the Anime Expo, the developers were more than happy to answer my questions about their upcoming 3D platform fighter.

The inspirations for the title were Super Smash Brothers and 3D platformers from the 90’s. And as seen from the gameplay, the title takes notes from 3D brawlers like Power Stone, but the developers mentioned that wasn’t a direct inspiration.
When asked about the engine being used for their 3D platform fighter, Unity was mentioned and that it would be targeting Steam at launch. I asked about a possible Switch version, which they said is in the cards for the future. Regarding the release window, it’s TBD at the time of this writing.
The vibe I got from the team members present at the Anime Expo, is that they love platform fighters and exuded such passion for their title. Seeing people play the game throughout my three days at the Expo, it looked like a ton of fun, having the depth expected of a 3D brawler.
One touch I particularly enjoyed was seeing how lively the character models were, having cartoony expressions and the HUD moving dynamically with the fight adds visual flair.
Closing Thoughts
Watching gameplay online and seeing it in person at the Anime Expo, I am keeping an eye on this one. There are not enough Power Stone-like games on the market and seeing a 3D platform fighter is quite a unique thing to see.
With a passionate team having great confidence in the project, right down to the studio being named after the project, makes me excited to see the final product. You can wishlist Bungo Bash on Steam and follow the game’s social media page here!
