2024 Golden Lance Award for Best Ongoing TV Series

2024 was an interesting year for ongoing TV series. The writer’s and actor’s strikes cast a long shadow over everything that came out. Concerns about AI, fair pay, streaming residuals, and more combined with market fragmentation and price hikes continue to make everything around ongoing television series a challenge. Still, this year saw Amazon continue to close the gap with Max’s prestige dramas. With that said, here is the winner of Lords of Gaming’s 2024 Golden Lance Award for Best Ongoing Series.

Winner – Fallout (Amazon MGM Studios)

Video game adaptations into other forms of media, such as TV shows, have often been a mixed bag. These adaptations frequently fail because creators attempt to introduce original elements without fully analyzing or respecting the source material. A prime example of this is the Halo TV show, which struggled to resonate with fans of the franchise. When Amazon announced a Fallout TV show was in development, I worried it might suffer a similar fate. Thankfully, fans of the franchise were treated to one of the best TV shows of the year.

The series introduces a fresh, original story while seamlessly incorporating iconic elements from the games. This approach allows the show to deviate from the games’ narratives without losing the essence of the Fallout experience. Creating a show like this helped strike the perfect balance of treating the source material with care to appease fans while still being welcoming to anyone who has never played the Fallout video game series.
