In the lead up to the launch of Warframe: 1999, Digital Extremes has released their animated prologue for the upcoming expansion to Warframe. This animation work is exactly 99 seconds long and does an excellent job showing off the new Hex syndicate characters in action together. Arthur cutting down the infested CRTs, Amir riding in on an atomicycle and having it crash into foes. Eleanor looking in a mirror to see her eye morph, Quincy providing back up fire, Aoi crushing a group of enemies with her power and Leticia providing help for her crew.

The animation was beautiful, and slow paced. Featuring a song called “Feeling Numb” that feels inspired by TooL, to me at least. It allowed for the characters to be more expressive. Arthur is more somber but has to keep being the leader. Eleanor is scared of herself, while Amir is the fun-loving show off and Quincy is just a cold calculated marksman. There was a lot to take away from the animation, and even more to learn about it. As the director for the animation came out with a statement about The Line’s creative process for it.

Quotes from The Line’s Director on the Warframe: 1999 Animated Prologue

Venla Linna, Director for the project said:

“Exploring a world like Warframe through 2D animation was an incredibly fulfilling experience. We were immediately drawn to the vastness of the universe that has been built, the depth of its storytelling, and the unapologetic stylishness of its characters. We strongly felt we had to match the care that Digital Extremes and its community puts into Warframe, and in the process of doing so truly came to be its biggest fans. I hope that by helping set the tone for what’s coming later in the month, we can introduce this new chapter of Warframe with the millennium scale fanfare it deserves.”

Not only did Venla speak on the project, the Creative Director of Warframe, Rebecca Ford also said:

“We’ve been a huge fan of THE LINE’s work for years and knew they would absolutely be the perfect partner. Warframe: 1999 is one of the most ambitious things our studio has tried in almost 12 years of the game’s evolution. We’re always looking for ways to authentically share our atmosphere and aesthetic with players out of game as well as in-game. This evocative short marks the last gift we have to give before the next narrative chapter of Warframe launches later this month!”

Below is the 99 second short for your viewing pleasure if you have not seen it on the game’s official YouTube channel yet.

At the end of the short, they did say there is a “major reveal” at The Game Awards in one week. Meaning that we might be seeing a new trailer for Warframe: 1999, and if you watch on Twitch, you can score a free Nyx warframe Twitch drop if you have your warframe account linked to your Twitch account.
