PlayStation has been aggressive with its multi-media push over the past few years. Between film releases like Uncharted (2022) and making a big splash on the silver screen with HBO’s The Last of Us (2023) and the Twisted Metal (2023) TV series, PlayStation Productions has been busy.
At CES 2025, various TV, and anime productions from PlayStation Productions were revealed.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Anime Announced
Leveraging its ownership of Aniplex and Crunchyroll, an anime series based on Sucker Punches’ Ghost of Tsushima series will be released in 2027. Gematsu reports the following on the announcement;
Takanobu Mizuno, who directed the Star Wars: Visions episode “The Duel,” will direct the series at Kamikaze Douga, with Gen Urobuchi writing the story composition. The anime will be produced in collaboration with Aniplex, and Sony Music will service as music and soundtrack partner.

Considering the franchise’s origins, an anime production is a perfect fit for the series. It is also the first PlayStation franchise to get a proper anime adaptation in many years. Prior efforts include an Ape Escape anime and one based on the PaRappa the Rapper series.
Horizon Zero Dawn Live-Action Film in Production
PlayStation Productions and Columba Pictures announced at CES 2025 that Horizon Zero Dawn will be on the big screen.

Out of the many PlayStation franchises getting adaptations, this aligns with Sony’s push to make it a landmark franchise for them. From the original Zero Dawn getting a PS5 next-gen upgrade, a sequel in the form of Forbidden West releasing in 2022, a Lego spin-off with LEGO Horizon Adventures in Fall 2024, and rumors of a multiplayer Horizon game in the works, Sony believes strongly in the IP.
No release window for the film project was given during the reveal.
Helldivers Movie In Production
PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures announced at CES 2025 that Helldivers is getting a featured film. No additional information was given at the reveal regarding when the project would be released or who would star in the production.

Considering that a clear inspiration behind the Helldivers franchise includes films like Starship Troopers, the Helldivers series getting a film adaptation is perfect. It also inspires confidence in continued support for Helldivers 2 over the next few years, further supported by recent comments made by the developers.
HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 Set for April 2025
During Sony’s CES 2025 conference, it was revealed that the PlayStation Productions and HBO’s The Last of Us will be released in April 2025.
Set to follow the events of Season 1, it will adapt the narrative of Last of Us 2. The Verge reports the following on The Last of Us Season 2;
This season is supposed to cover a portion of the second game, with the full story being split across two or more seasons, according to an interview last year with the show’s creators. “We don’t think that we’re going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons [2 and 3] because we’re taking our time and go down interesting pathways which we did a little bit in Season 1 too,” showrunner Craig Mazin told Deadline.
Considering how divisive the source material was for many gamers, hopefully, TV audiences will be more receptive to the dark narrative Last of Us Part 2 provides.
Closing Thoughts
With all these adaptations on the way, alongside additional rumored ones, it’s amazing to see video games hit the big and silver screens.
