The world of PC peripherals is vast and confusing at times. There are so many options, features, brands, and trends that could derail a simple purchase decision into a research rabbit hole with no end. Beyond budgetary considerations, peripherals are extremely personal choices that often reflect what we as consumers look for in products. For me, efficiency is always high on my list when it comes to PC-related products. Enter the Alti Play Performance Desk Mat, a spectacular high-end mouse mat by Journey. The product is high-end on almost all fronts, of course, which means it comes at a premium cost.

Premium Unboxing Experience

One thing that definitely stands out when purchasing new products is the unboxing experience. For example, when I first got my Xbox Series X, the unboxing was phenomenal due to its exquisite packaging, and how the box was compartmentalized in a sleek package. In that regard, Journey too doesn’t hold back.

Packaged in a smart black rectangular cardboard container, the Alti Play Desk packaging oozes with style and refinement. Each compartment is wrapped in slick black wrapping paper that is elegantly sealed. The entire unboxing experience felt premium. However, that wasn’t the only thing that felt premium as well.

Phenomenal Alti Play Mouse Mat Performance

The Alti Play Mat is quite large. Measuring 900mm(L) (35.42”) x 400mm(W) (15.75”) the mat size is substantial, so make sure your desk can accommodate it. For my own personal desk, the width was too much for it, so it slightly hangs off the edges. Despite this, it was an absolute pleasure to use the Alti Play Mat thanks to the high-end materials used in the mat.

The materials used in the Alti Play Mat are second to none. The mat utilizes a Lycra surface to ensure a smooth glide for your mouse. My HyperX Pulsefire Haste 2 mouse simply streaks across the mat with almost no effort. In fact, the smoothness truly reflects the premium feel of the mat and is a joy to use.

The bottom of the Alti Play Mat is made from a natural rubber base that is durable and keeps the mat steady. Not only does it perform well, but it’s also designed to last given its 4mm thickness. The edges of the Alti Play Mat are thickly stitched which makes it durable given that these stitches are the first to fall apart.

The Alti Play Mat comes with a magnetized edge on the left-hand side of the mat. This edge connects with the charging panel, producing a delightful click when it does. Speaking of the charging panel…

Charging Panel & RGB

One of the standout features of the Alti Play Mat is its magnetic charging panel. The panel lets you wirelessly charge two devices at once—fast charging your phone at 15W (Android compatible and iPhone 12 and newer compatible) and Air Pods/Pro at 5W. The wireless charging platform does give off satisfying magnetic feedback when your phone begins to charge.

Using the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, the wireless charging was quite slow. Often the phone would estimate up to 3 hours for a full charge if the phone’s charge was below 40%. I could not test the AirPods charging as I only own Galaxy Buds Pro which is not compatible with the wireless earbuds charging panel.

The Alti Play Mat has plenty of customizable RGB lighting options. Options include nine colors and six modes to match your vibe. In addition, it’s quite easy to change up the panel’s different lighting options. The RGB are found around the panel itself and look quite tasteful and not overdone. This is always a plus in my book.

The panel has two buttons on the bottom right side. The top button changes colors, while the bottom button changes the lighting mode, brightness level, and turns off RGB lighting. It was easy and seamless to use.

Final Thoughts on the Journey Alti Play Performance Desk Mat

The Journey Alti Play Mat is undoubtedly a premium product. Its exquisite unboxing experience, high-end mat materials, practical charging options—albeit slow—and tasteful RGB applications make it a compelling, though costly offering. However, once you get it in your hands, you will quickly understand why.

Final Score: 8.3 / 10
