To say Skull and Bones had a rough time is an understatement. From the dreaded “AAAA” game comment to multiple reworks, the game has ensured tough tides indeed (pun intended). Now, Ubisoft Singapore just wrapped up its Year 2 Showcase, and it looks like it is turning the tide. Here are 7 reasons why you should check out Skull and Bones now.
It’s Free to Try Right Now with a Discount at Hand!

Skull and Bones is now offering a free trial across multiple platforms for up to 6 hours. This includes Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series One X|S. Best of all, players can take advantage of seamless cross-progression and cross-play features that let you continue your pirate adventure across multiple devices and team up with friends on any platform. Don’t worry; you won’t lose any progress or any in-game purchases you may have made during the trial period. They will carry over if you decide to upgrade to the full game.
Skull and Bones is also on a nice discount until April 20. So, if the trial leaves a good impression, you can upgrade for a reasonable price as well.
New Season “Ascent Into Chaos” is Out Now
As of writing, the new season of Skull and Bones, dubbed “Ascent Into Chaos”, will be available on 15 April. So no need to wait too long to jump into all the new offerings over the horizon. Keep in mind, there will be a maintenance period of 3 hours, but you’ll be sailing on the Indian Ocean in no time.
Land Combat Prominently Featured during the Skull and Bones Year 2 Showcase
By far, one of the key features coming this year is the introduction of land combat. Yes, it should have been there from the start, but for whatever reason, the feature was cut, and I’m just happy to see it added to the game. Obviously, it takes a lot of cues from Assassin’s Creed, but it looks great from the snippets we all saw.
Land combat looks like it will complement the already robust sea combat Skull and Bones is known for, and its potential could mark a new avenue for additional content down the road. Keep in mind that land combat is expected to release sometime in Q3 of 2025, as noted in the Skull and Bones Year 2 showcase.
Item Ascensions Ahoy!
The new Item Ascensions feature in Skull and Bones offers an exciting progression system, allowing players to enhance their gear for improved performance and customization. This deeper level of equipment customization enables players to tailor their pirate loadout to their unique playstyle, fostering a stronger sense of ownership in their builds.
Skull and Bones Year 2 Showcase – A New PVP Mode, Death Tide
During the Skull and Bones Year 2 Showcase, the developers showed off their new PVP mode, Death Tide. The mode pits 2 teams against each other where they have to take hold of key areas to score points and win the match. This will undoubtedly add a much-needed boost to Skull and Bones’ PVP offerings.
Frigate on the Horizon!
Every season, Skull and Bones introduces new ships. But fans have been clamoruing for larger ships for a while now, and Ubisoft Singapore seems obliged to deliver. The Year 2 Showcase showed off the mammoth Frigate class ship. The ship houses 38 gun ports and should make a welcome addition to the game’s ever-growing ship roster. Though players will have to wait until Season 2 to get their mitts on the Frigate.
World Tiers Revamped in Skull and Bones Year 2 Showcase

Any fan of live service games is familiar with the world tier systems. Now, a much-needed revamp is making its way in Skull and Bones. World Tier 2, known as Cutthroat Seas, will provide more challenges but with better loots and crafting materials as rewards.
To access World Tier 2, captains will have to reach Kingpin Infamy Tier and complete the World Ascension Infamy Quest to gain access.
