The first of SEGA’s big revival projects, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, is a beautiful hand-drawn 2D action/platformer that brings Joe back in the spotlight. Following the fantastic SEGA Villians DLC release, SEGA revealed that the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2!
What is Shinobi: Art of Vengeance?

Art of Vengeance is a triumphant return for the series. Leveling up the formula with excellent traversal and combat. Its richly layered, hand-drawn backgrounds are as inviting as they are detailed. Lizardcube has modernized the series while honoring its 1987 roots, forging a fresh path for Joe Musashi that respects the lessons and legacy of their peers and predecessors. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is sharp, fluid, and pure, and a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern design.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version features improved resolution, offering better image quality in both handheld and docked modes. This is mainly a huge boon for Docked play, as using Switch 2’s Boost Mode, the game runs at a near-native 1080p on Nintendo’s handheld.
What is the SEGA Villians DLC?
But that’s not all! In early 2026, the SEGA Villians DLC pack released. I reviewed it and greatly enjoyed my time with the DLC. It tested my mastery of the game’s tight combat and platforming mechanics. In addition, it features challenging but fair boss encounters, my highlights being the battles against Dr. Eggman and Goro.
After spending well over three hours with this DLC content, I loved my time with it. It reminded me why Art of Vengeance is one of 2025’s best games, and that quality continues with this lengthy DLC. For $10, this is a must-own for those longing for a real challenge.
