As 2026 winds down, a whole slew of great games are already lining up for 2027. In February alone, titles like Fable, Persona 4 Revival, and God of War: Laufey are ready to set the stage for yet another killer year for video games. But January isn’t as stacked, but it does have one of the most interesting and anticipated free-to-play games launching in it. At Gamescom yesterday, a new trailer dropped for the urban open-world anime-styled game Ananta. This trailer showed off a lot of new story beats and locations for the game, but also announced its release date of January 15th next year. Here is what we know so far about the game and what platforms it’s launching on!
What to Expect from Ananta on January 15th
Ananta is going to be a massive open-world game. With guns, car chases, hand-to-hand combat, Spider-Man-like web slinging, and all of the little mechanics each character in the game has, like hacking and arresting people. There’s going to be customization for the many different characters in the game, going all the way to the clothes they wear. On top of this, unlike many other free-to-play anime games, Ananta will not be a “Gacha” game. You can obtain every character in the game just by playing it and not gambling for them, but cosmetics, cars, etc will be the only thing monetized in the game, according to Twisted Voxel last year.
The game has also opened up pre-registration on other platforms outside of mobile and the website, with milestones for the community to hit for additional rewards when the game launches. What all these rewards mean in terms of currency is up in the air, but the cosmetic stuff, including the car skins, looks like decent freebies for the community.
As for the trailer shown at Gamescom, its main focus was on the two starting locations for the game. The normal city that’s been shown off in past trailers, and even crazier-looking Chinese-themed city on top of what could be one of many villains and even new characters to get excited about. Ananta will be free-to-play and launch on January 15th next year, on iOS and Android, Steam, and PlayStation 5.
