Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a beautiful ode in scope and size to the games of yesteryear with a modern immersive touch. The gameplay is a mix of fast-paced action combat and adorable creature collection. The Rot are tiny friends who accompany Kena throughout her journey. Luckily for Xbox players, they won’t have to wait that much longer to get their hands on the game.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is set to be released on Xbox
The story follows a young Spirit Guide named Kena. Her duties are helping lingering souls move on to the afterlife. It is a beautiful game with heavy undertones. The art style is a gorgeous mix of Pixar-like CGI and Ghibli-like whimsy.
Looking into the history of Ember Labs, they come from a background in animation. Their previous works were animation led advertisements, namely with Coca-Cola and the MLB. Their biggest accomplishment previous to Kena was a short fan film based on Majora’s Mask. Kena: Bridge of Spirits is their first foray into gaming.
Ember Labs used Unreal Engine 4 masterfully, furthermore, the game launched polished and lacked Unreal engine related issues. Kena launched as a PlayStation and PC exclusive back in 2021. Xbox players will soon be given access to this gem!
The game will be released both digitally and physically. The physical edition is a collaboration between Ember Labs (the developer) and Maximum Entertainment Retail (retail publisher). The game will launch on Xbox platforms on August, 15th 2024.
Closing Thoughts
I played this title on PS5 back in early 2022. It is a gem in every sense of the word. The combat is not as challenging as most Souls games, however, some bosses can be difficult.
Finding all the 100 rot in the main village and throughout the rest of the world is fun and rewarding. The rot can even be customized to wear different hats as well! If it weren’t for one trophy that requires a 2nd play-through on the hardest difficulty, I would have platinumed it.
