Famitsu: Coronavirus Causes Delays for Animal Crossing Console

As reported by Famitsu this morning. Nintendo has indefinitely delayed the release of the Animal Crossing Console. At this time, Nintendo is only saying the Japanese market will be impacted. Outbreaks of the Coronavirus in Foxconn facilities are being blamed for the delays.

In spite of this, It is unclear why the outbreak does not impact the US. Subsequently, Nintendo of America has not released a statement yet. Nintendo’s headquarters in Japan released a statement a few short hours ago.

Edited for translation:

“Notice of delay to orders of Animal Crossing Collectors Set. Due to the impact of the new outbreak of coronavirus infection. Manufactoring for the Japanese domestic market currently takes place in China. The impact on the shipment of Nintendo Switch Collectible Animal Crossing Set is expected to be inevitable.

We are sorry to announce the begining of reservations orders. But then, immediately postpone the reservation start date for Nintendo Switch Collectible Animal Crossing Set. as well as the carrying case.

Could This Get Ugly?

CNBC has gone as far as to say that this will impact all hardware manufactured for Nintendo. In addition to the Animal Crossing console, this includes Joy-Con Controllers, Switch carrying cases and Ring Fit Adventure. We will have to keep our eye on this over the next few days as the story progresses. It should be noted, there is no statement from Nintendo of America yet.

We have a looming Nintendo Direct as well as, a real lack of Animal Crossing previews. A delay might be something to watch for over the next week. Any delay to Animal Crossing would have it join The Last of Us 2, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Cyberpunk 2077 along with Marvels Avengers, as delays from Q1-Q2 2020.
