There is a way to actually kill the Red Dragon in Demon’s Souls.

The Dragon stands as, one of the earliest environmental hazards that will prove troublesome. Naturally, your first instinct will be to run as far away as possible from its fire. But, there is an actual way to kill the fire breathing beast.

Now, what I recommend, is typically regarded as the easiest way. This method includes using your strongest bow and a TON of arrows. With this method you’ll kill the Red Dragon in Demon’s Souls without a hitch.

After you beat the Phalanx boss in 1-1, you will gain access to the next level, The Lord’s Path. The level boils down to a long bridge, littered with dreglings and humans, but there’s a catch. The Red Dragon will swoop down periodically and rain fire across the bridge, burning everything in its path. It’s your job to run through as fast as possible once the dragon finishes, to avoid the next batch of fire.

Once, you manage to cross the first section, you will see a watchtower that can be scaled. Run up its staircase, defeat the crossbow men and prepare to get comfortable. You’re gonna be here awhile.

How to Kill the Red Dragon

Position yourself between the wall’s castellations that face the dragon and let loose. With base stats, it takes about 71 arrows to kill the dragon. For comparison, I stocked up with 170 arrows and used a +4 Compound Bow. By the end, I had a total of 99 arrows left. Which, includes the ones that didn’t hit the dragon because I couldn’t get the timing right at the start.

Speaking of which, timing wise, is probably the one aspect that will prove tricky.

In the beginning, my arrows looked as if they hit the dragon but no damage registered. Keep in mind, you need to wait until the moment just before the dragon flies back up. Once you see a health bar appear after a fired arrow, you’ll know you hit the dragon.

When the dragon finally goes down, you will receive the Small Flame Scale Demon’s Soul. This will net you over 7,000 souls when consumed. You can also run back to where the Red Dragon and Blue Dragon were nesting earlier in 1-1 of Demon’s Souls. With the Red Dragon gone, you can finally pick up all the loot there. The one piece of loot you REALLY want, unfortunately is underneath the Blue Dragon’s tail. If you can manage to dodge the Dragon’s tail swipes, you will get a Ring of Great Strength. Which boosts your overall equip weight.

If you started as a knight class like me, this means no more slow rolling around…at least until you pick up too much stuff again.
