Croods 2 and Elf Land in the top Three at the Box Office
For the third weekend in a row The Croods: A New Age is sitting on top of the box office. This might be the last weekend since Monster Hunter had its release date pushed up to December 18th. The holiday classic Elf is also gaining some ground as it made it into the top three.
The Croods: A New Age has grossed an estimated $3 million at this weekend’s box office. Even as the pandemic grows in some areas, this film has continued to do well. Most of the other movies this year did not perform so well. The movie is now sitting at $76 million worldwide. With its smaller budget, this movie has easily been one of the more profitable films of 2020.
Half Brothers was able to take the second spot this weekend. The comedy grossed $490,000 as Elf was right behind it with $400,000. Given that this is the holiday season it seems like Elf might make a run for at least the second spot in the next few weeks. With Monster Hunter and Wonder Woman 1984 both coming out in the next couple of weeks. It seems unlikely that it will do it without a push from the fans. Speaking of Wonder Woman, the first movie has been rereleased and is sitting at $325,589 worldwide.
Weekend Top Three
3. Elf $400,000
2. Half Brothers $490,000
1. The Croods: A New Age $3 million
Next weekend look for the video game adaption of Monster Hunter. It was recently pulled from Chinese theaters do to line in the film that was considered offensive. Currently, the movie has pulled in $4.8 million from that release. If that scene is removed from the movie expect it to have a huge return in the Chinese market. It might be able to gross more than that here in the domestic market. Like I said though the COVID-19 pandemic is seeing a increase in numbers here and theaters might not be open.
