Kicking off the month of February for PlayStation players is the car-smashing competitive action game Destruction AllStars by Lucid Games. Here is everything you need to know before the exclusive PS5 title releases on Feb. 2.

What is Destruction AllStars?

Destruction AllStars is an arena-based vehicular combat game featuring on-foot and behind the wheel gameplay elements. The game launches with sixteen playable AllStars. Each has a unique ability and hero vehicle. Four playable modes are available at launch and are tailored to singleplayer arcade mode and 16-person multiplayer. Those four modes are Mayhem, Carnado, Stockpile, and Gridfall.

Three vehicle types are available: Speed, Small and Nimble, and Heavy. While playing, cars are dispensable by design. This allows players to jump in and out of cars as they wrack up points and destroy opponents.

Lucid Games Has Up To A Year of Post-launch Content Planned

According to an interview with Eurogamer, the team has at least a year’s worth of post-launch content planned. John McLaughlin, a developer on Destruction AllStars says, “While we’ve got a plan for the forthcoming year, we’ve got loads of cool stuff coming, we do want to engage with that community, we want to listen to what they’re saying.”

An in-game currency called AllStar Coins can be earned and used towards the game’s many cosmetic options. A second in-game currency called Destruction Points is available to purchase with real-world money. Later this year, both can be earned by participating in daily and weekly challenges.

Destruction AllStars is the Studio’s Biggest Project Yet

British game developer Lucid Games are taking a leap of faith with Destruction AllStars. Prior titles they have produced include 2018’s Switchblade, 2014’s Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, and a few others. Bumping up the visuals and gameplay, Destruction AllStars looks to be their most ambitious game yet. With a game focused on community feedback, the developers will surely stay busy since players will be working from home due to the pandemic.

PS5, Dualsense Support

As a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Destruction AllStars takes advantage of the hardware’s power and signature features. This includes fast loading, 3D audio support, and the Dualsense’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.

Destruction AllStars’s Release Date

Destruction AllStars releases on PlayStation 5 on Feb. 2, 2021, for the retail price of $69.99 USD. The game is free to download for PlayStation Plus subscribers until April 5.
