This holiday weekend the second Avatar film was able to stave off any competition at the box office. Babylon bombed at the box office while Puss in Boots: The Last Wish came in second place during some terrible weather for most of the country. It looks like Disney will finish off the year strong with its mix of Marvel and Avatar dominance.
Avatar: The Way of Water grossed $56 million as its domestic numbers continue to drop. This film is now sitting at $881 million in the worldwide market. It will be just a matter of time before this film finally passes that billion mark. I doubt we will see a $2 billion mark for this Avatar movie. Given that numbers three and four are mostly filmed, it is not that we won’t be getting a sequel. We just might not get the fifth movie since it took so long to create most of the sequels.
It seems that fans just don’t want to see a movie set in the 1920s over a music icon. Whitney Houston’s film was able to gross $5.3 million in its first weekend. Babylon grossed $3.5 million in its first weekend. This star-studded film failed to bring in viewers. With a budget of over $80 million, this movie will not be making any money back. Even with a home release, this film is a financial disaster for Paramount. That studio just needs to be happy Top Gun: Maverick was such a massive success. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever added $3 million as it sits at $800 million worldwide. Phase 4 is a mess and it’s great to see it finally coming to an end with a beautiful tribute to Chadwick Boseman.
Weekend Top Three

1. Avatar: The Way of Water $56 million
A severe winter storm paralyzed a good chunk of the country. We should see a small bump in some of these movies as people start to get back to living once all of this ends. Don’t expect any new wide releases until January 6th with Women Talking and M3gan. Each of these movies will not take out Avatar: The Last Wish. That following weekend on January 11th & 12th a limited release of Shin Ultraman will be released. The first day will feature English subtitles while the second day will be dubbed in English.
