In online FPS players, everyone wants to finish the game at the top of the coveted leaderboard. Many players especially in Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will chase kills in order to scale the leaderboard. In game modes like Kill Confirmed and Team Deathmatch, this is a 100% solid strategy to win games. However, in objective-focused modes like Domination and Hardpoint. This strategy may not net you a win, and is there anything more frustrating than dropping 50 kills and still losing a game? In this guide, I will break down how to be a more competent objective teammate. While still being able to drop high-kill games and control the top of the leaderboard.
Don’t Just Run Straight At The Objective
The biggest mistake so many Modern Warfare 2 players make is running straight at an objective. Or repeatedly running the same routes through the map. So many players will endlessly complain about campers but will run at them in a straight line. Dying over and over again. This feeds into your enemy’s streaks and the next thing you know you have to shoot down chopper gunners and VTOLs because of this hard-headed tactic. In the most basic sense. If you go down a hallway two times and get killed by the same player at the same angle. Do not go down that hallway a third time thinking “I will get him this time!”.
Most often these campers, especially the ones stuck in one spot with deployable cover and LMGs can often be easily exploited. If you cannot seem to make it to a B objective because half of the enemy team has pitched their tents. Then simply rotate down the opposite side of the map to put pressure on their spawn flag and capture it. This will either force the campers to move back to prevent you from taking their flag. Or they will have to push to take the opposite spawn flag. This will leave the B objective ripe for the taking, or if the enemy team decides to still just sit on B. It doesn’t matter, because you will still control A and C objectives which means you will still be scoring twice as many points as the enemy.
Locking Down 2 And Holding Wins Games
One of the hardest plays to run as a squad is trying to run a triple cap situation. Too often while playing Domination do I see a team rush the B objective then instead of locking it down and holding two? They will try to take the third objective, which will cause a spawn flip. Giving the other team time to get behind you and perhaps gain the advantage. With a team of talented players, however. You can certainly hold down a triple cap especially if you are running a full team that communicates. If you are solo queuing or running with a partner it is unlikely you will be able to pull off a triple cap.
If you are trying to lockdown a B-point for the entire game to secure the win, you will have to play smart and gear your loadouts accordingly. Your gun preference is completely up to you of course, but personally, when I am locking down objectives I prefer a quick mobile SMG. This allows me to get to objectives quickly whether I am trying to capture them or defend them.
That doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to an SMG however. It’s all about finding a gun that fits your playstyle. If you struggle with taking corners fast and hitting shots in rapid succession may be an LMG or Assault rifle might be better suited to your playstyle. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Step outside of the “Meta” guns that often dominate the conversation of Modern Warfare 2.
One of the most neglected aspects of a loadout that so many players forget about in Modern Warfare 2 is the field upgrade. There is a wealth of tools at your disposal within these upgrades. Rushers will undoubtedly want to use Dead Silence. But if you are focusing on locking down an objective then a Trophy System is a must. This will prevent the enemy team from spamming the objective with explosives to kill you before you even see them coming.
Be Realistic With Your Scorestreaks in Modern Warfare 2
Everyone wants to be the player that is rolling the high killstreaks. Earning scorestreaks like chopper gunner, advanced UAV and of course, the Juggernaut load-out feels incredible. But how often are you earning these streaks? How effective are these streaks in helping your team win games? These are the questions you have to ask yourself. While a chopper gunner streak is great for clearing enemies off of the objective if you only earn it once every 10 games. It’s not really helping you climb that scoreboard, or win games. If you’re playing a game mode like Domination and you can get relatively consistent killstreaks over 5. Running UAV, VTOL, and Chopper Gunner is a good objective game mode scorestreak combination if you find yourself consistently hitting high kill counts.
On the flip side of this, if you are a lower-skilled player but still want to contribute to your team with killstreaks. Good killstreaks are UAV, Clustermine, or Counter-UAV if you prefer lower killstreaks or can earn them more consistently. A Cluster Mine can be a nightmare for the enemy team to deal with on a B objective. The enemy team will have to either run into the objective and get killed by the mine a handful of times, or try to shoot each individual mine.
Running UAV and Counter-UAV is a win-win situation for both you and your teammates. Constantly having info from a UAV in regards to where the enemies are on the map is crucial for defending objectives. Counter-UAV allows you to move around the map unseen by the enemy team via minimap and combined with field upgrades like Dead Silence. You will be able to move around the map quickly and be able to flank your enemy at every opportunity.
