The 3 Best SMGs In Modern Warfare 2

Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is certainly a game of variety in a lot of ways. There is definitely no lack of choices especially if you have been absent from the series for the past few years. The game offers a wide variety of guns, as well as modes. With the addition of the all-new DMZ mode. Alongside the standard multiplayer and of course Warzone 2, there is plenty of content for players to sink their teeth into.

Building a one size fits all class for all these modes can be difficult. Because there is truly a plethora of weapons, attachments, and perks that can combine to make the perfect class for you. But often it’s hard to know where to start. So with this guide, I will be giving you the best 3 SMGs to get you started in Modern Warfare 2. This is based on my own personal experience with over 300 hours in the game across Warzone 2, DMZ, and multiplayer.

Honorable Mention: Vaznev-9K

The AK platform, alongside the TAQ platform, is some of the most reliable weapons in Modern Warfare 2. The Vaznev is no exception to this. It provides some of the best mobility in the SMG class, paired with a high rate of fire. While it is rare that you will see the Vaznev-9K in most players’ hands since it is more of an acquired taste. But just because it is not popular does not mean it isn’t lethal in the right hands.

In close quarters, the Vaznev-9K will shred through enemies in little to no time. Its time to kill (TTK) is painfully close to the Fennec 45. The addition of the fast base mobility and handling with the Vaznev-9K can make it lethal in a run and gun professional’s hands. However, if you aren’t good at closing distances, then the Vaznev-9K might be a bit more of a challenge.

The recoil even with the right attachments can be a little unruly. As well as a serious drop-off in damage at range. If you try to build the Vaznev-9K to be better at range, it loses its mobility bonus becoming average at best. If you are a master of the run and gun, and keep it moving through a map, then the Vaznev-9K is worth a try. However, if you are a slower player in terms of your movement, then you will likely skip this SMG.

3. Minibak

The Minibak is a very unique SMG in comparison to the rest of the guns in its class. While the TTK is weaker than some of its counterparts, its 64-round magazine is a huge strength. With most of the other SMGs, once you add an extended magazine, you will be slower while maneuvering due to the additional weight. The Minibak doesn’t suffer from this due to its lightweight design built around its 64-round magazine. You will need to use a few extra bullets to kill your enemies. But with a single magazine, you can clear 3 or even 4 enemies off of an objective. With its fast fire rate, if you land your shots, it’s lethal in close-quarters situations.

The glaring downside to the Minibak is unfortunately its range. Even in mid-range encounters the spread and damage drop off is quickly noticeable. Despite all the customization options for the gun, there still really isn’t a way to make it viable in more long-range situations. Even in the most skilled hands trying to win long-range gunfights will be a challenge. The key to success with the Minibak is knowing what lanes to maneuver through and avoiding long lanes in favor of shorter-ranged encounters.

2. Lachmann Sub

The Lachmann Sub is very much the M4 of the SMG class. It has a wide variety of attachment options that can really be tuned into your play style. The Lachmann has a standard 30-round magazine with an average rate of fire but with very little recoil. It is quite easy to line up headshots in medium-range scenarios. With a simple under-barrel attachment, you can almost eliminate all recoil on the gun. Then with the addition of a drum magazine you can have an objective clearing machine.

Run and gun players will love the flexibility of the Lachmann. With a variety of mobility-focused attachments, the Lachmann can become one of the fastest-moving SMGs in Modern Warfare 2. For players who prefer range over speed, the Lachmann is strong in both close and medium engagements. With the proper tuning, you can even fight at longer ranges. There isn’t necessarily anything weak with the Lachmann it’s simply number two because the number one option dominates in almost every field.

1. Fennec 45

The Fennec 45, or what many will remember as the Vector from the original Modern Warfare 2, is an absolute monster no matter what game mode you are playing. With practically no recoil and one of the fastest TTKs in the game, the Fennec 45 is a killing machine. With the added 45-round mag, you can dispatch 3 enemies in seconds without having to reload. The covert force barrel makes the Fennec a long-range menace as well. This has been the go-to SMG for many pro players as well as your more average “sweat” players since the launch of Modern Warfare 2.

What elevates the Fennec 45 to the top of the SMG pile is a simple fact. No matter how its built, it is unlikely that you will find yourself in a gunfight in Modern Warfare 2 that you cannot win with the Fennec 45. It is a staple in my multiplayer class loadout. In addition, it is a great secondary to a sniper/DMR in Warzone 2 and DMZ. If you are looking for one of the best all-around guns in Modern Warfare 2 then you have to look no further than the Fennec 45.
