No More Steamboats – New Trailer for ‘MOUSE’ Released

When Cuphead released, it kicked the doors down for retro animation fans in gaming. The charming classic cartoon art style was well realized, inspiring studios to run with the idea. Developer Fumi Games revealed boomer-shooter MOUSE back in 2023 and recently released a new trailer for the title.

It showed off various mechanics and new features being added into this promising upcoming release.

MOUSE Trailer Breakdown

The MOUSE trailer, which was released during the Triple-i Showcase, revealed various new mechanics. Using your tail, you can grapple to various objects and even fly in the air for a short while.

The gameplay shown off in this short teaser reminds me a lot of Doom Eternal and how inventive those transversal mechanics were. In addition, the Popeye-inspired can of Spinach can be eaten to punch through any threats in your way.

Overall Thoughts

As a major fan of animation and specifically of the early days of Disney, seeing such a well-realized homage to black-and-white cartoons is amazing. Animation and the medium of it offers such creativity. Utilizing how wacky and wild things got in those old toons for gameplay mechanics in MOUSE is a brilliant decision.

In addition, the game’s art direction appeals to me greatly. Hand-drawn sprites in a 3D world are a very natural evolution to what classic boomer shooters like Doom accomplished in the 90’s.

If you want to learn more about the game, you can check out the MOUSE‘s Steam Page. It’s set for release in 2025 on all platforms. Will you enjoy a can of Spinach and fight your way through black-and-white rumbles? Let us know in the comments below!
