Plans for Microtransaction Compensation in the Echoes Update for Wayfinder
Today it was announced by Airship Syndicate that Wayfinder will be massively reworked in the new Echoes update. It will become a standalone ARPG game that can be played alone, as opposed to an online only MMORPG. But you can also play with friends if you so choose to. With various changes to the loot system, an all-new armor system and a streamlined way of acquiring characters in the game. But considering this fundamental shift in business model, which will remove all remnants of live service spending. Such as microtransactions for cosmetics and “pay to skip” the grind by buying weapons and characters. If players spent any money beyond the Founders Packs, are they due for any form of compensation?
Yes, You Will Get Compensated in Wayfinder
Wayfinder originally had this currency called “Runesilver”. Which you could use to buy various items in an in-game shop, including cosmetics that will be no longer be available. Considering every player’s progress in the game will be reset on the day of the update. You would also receive an amount of it when purchasing any tiers of the Founders Pack system. Considering all forms of additional player spending is being removed in the upcoming Echoes Update. This would bring the game to being a “purchase once and keep forever” type of title. As opposed to a live service one that is gone once the servers are. With this change in model, it raises the question of, if players spent beyond their Founders Pack. Would they be entitled to anything?
Well, we reached out to Airship Syndicate for comment, and Aj LaSaracina, Executive produce for Wayfinder had this to say:
We will be giving player compensation for Runesilver purchased. We’ll be converting their wallet into a special currency to be used in-game for exclusive cosmetics that can’t be earned any other way. Due to the fact that cosmetics that might have been purchased have been transformed into actual armor sets you find in-game, there is no direct 1:1 conversion so we felt this was the best way to give players something and also allow them to choose which rewards they wanted.
Whether or not this counts for retroactively purchased Runesilver is still unknown at this time. But it is good to know that players will have something to show for their support. Beyond the items they get to keep in their Founders Pack.
