PlayStation VR2 PC Adapter and Features Breakdown
PlayStation VR Expanding Beyond PlayStation 5
Sony is taking virtual reality to the next level by introducing a PC adapter for PlayStation VR 2, expanding the VR experience beyond traditional consoles. This adapter enables Steam users to enjoy all the latest updates and enhancements from Sony’s cutting-edge hardware. Interestingly, some graphics cards may make the adapter unnecessary, as they allow direct connection to the PSVR 2 via the USB-C port. Exciting times for VR enthusiasts!
If Your GPU Supports VirtualLink, You Do Not Need the Adapter
In 2018, the tech industry witnessed the announcement of VirtualLink, which garnered strong support from both Nvidia and AMD. This innovative technology was designed to revolutionize PC VR connections by providing a unified solution for power and data transmission through a single cable. At the time, it held great promise in simplifying the user experience by eliminating the need to manage multiple connectors, including USB, video, and additional power, as well as breakout boxes.
Regrettably, despite its initial potential, VirtualLink was later discontinued in GPUs. This decision came as a result of the market’s shift away from PC VR in favor of standalone VR headsets such as the Meta Quest. This shift led to a diminished demand for the technology, ultimately resulting in its abandonment by leading GPU manufacturers.
It has been reported on Steam that users with certain GPUs from around 2018 may not require a PC VR adapter. These GPUs include the Nvidia GeForce RTX 20 Series cards (Founders Editions) and AMD AMD 6000 or 7000 series reference design cards. Partner cards from that time did not come with VirtualLink support. While the following list includes potential GPUs with VirtualLink support, the easiest way to confirm compatibility is to download the PSVR 2 app from Steam and see if your GPU is one of the few that meets the specific requirements.

Currently, there are reports of frustrating issues with connecting PSVR 2’s Sense Controllers to Bluetooth. Additionally, it’s important to note that PC support for PSVR 2 does not offer several features that are unique to the PSVR 2 system. These features include HDR, headset feedback, eye-tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback apart from rumble.
