Rumor – Dark Souls 3 Remaster in Development
Nick Baker shared details about a potential Dark Souls 3 remaster during the latest episode of the XboxEra Podcast. He mentioned having additional information to support this claim but noted he was “not allowed to share it.” Unsurprisingly, Baker stated that the remaster would feature higher frame rates and improved resolution. However, as with any rumor, this should be taken with a grain of salt. Even if true, plans can always change during development.
Does Dark Souls 3 Need A Remaster
Dark Souls 3 was released on March 24, 2016, marking its eighth anniversary in 2024. Since then, technology has significantly advanced, offering better frame rates and overall visual fidelity. Despite these advancements, I feel conflicted about whether the game needs a remaster. From a gameplay perspective, it still holds up well, and there aren’t many quality-of-life improvements that come to mind as essential.
The most compelling reason for a Dark Souls 3 remaster would be to enhance its graphical fidelity. While an improved frame rate would also be welcome, the game already runs at 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, making this less of a necessity.
Bloodborne On The Other hand…
It’s no secret that fans have been clamoring for a Bloodborne remaster. The game, originally released a year before Dark Souls 3, feels significantly older in comparison. It runs at a locked 30 FPS but frequently dips lower due to severe frame pacing issues. While the recently released PlayStation 5 Pro enhances the game’s graphical fidelity, performance remains unchanged because the frame rate is hard-locked.
Given Bloodborne’s performance issues, it seems more deserving of a remaster than other titles. Unfortunately, it’s becoming increasingly clear that some form of contractual agreement between FromSoftware and Sony may be preventing this.
