6 Reasons Why You Should Play Schedule I Right Now

In this crowded modern video game landscape, it’s difficult for games to break through the zeitgeist. So, when a game captures a moment despite not charting on the Twitch charts, you know it did something special. Enter Schedule I, a drug kingpin simulator that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is a blast to play. Here are six reasons why you should try out the game.

The Schedule I Demo Will Get You Hooked

Seeing Schedule I climb the ranks on the Steam charts raised my eyebrow. Looking into the game, I saw it had a demo available and decided to give it a try. After an hour in, the rest was history. The game hooked me with its silly charm and addictive and relaxing sim-like gameplay.

A Single Developer To Rule Them All

Developer Tyler’s Video Game Studio (TVGS) is the solo developer of Schedule I. No doubt TVGS has been hard at work. Since its release, there have been six patches (as of 6 April 2025). The determination shown by Tyler has been immense. The developer is even launching an open beta to test out upcoming patches. Hopefully, it won’t let up and allow the game to be one of 2025’s indie breakout hits, similar to Balatro and Palworld of previous years.

Modest Pricing

Unlike the Switch 2, Schedule I will not break the bank. Retailing at a modest $19.99 (and less in certain regions, including my own), Schedule I has a lot to offer for such a small price point. Yes, it is an early access game that will change with time, but the game manages to nail the gameplay loop early on in its lifespan. Speaking of gameplay…

Similar to other simulator games, Schedule I excels in its rather calming, monotomous, task-oriented gameplay. Yes, you will collect ingredients to make your illicit drugs. Eventually, you will rely on hired help to distribute and manufacture your drugs, which kind of acts like

Progression Done Right

What Schedule I excels at is how addictive- pun intended- the sense of progression the game achieves. Starting out as a small timeweed grower and dealer and moving your way through harder drugs feels natural and highly rewarding. Eventually, you’ll make it to the big leagues and this will cause other cartels/drug organizations to take notice. That’s where fighting off rival drug organizations is phenomenal and hilarious at the same time.

Schedule I Humor is on Point

Schedule I does not shy away from the humorous side of things. Everything from its silly Bob’s Burger art style to the ridiculous writing and drug kingpin journey, the game doesn’t take itself too seriously, even with cartel threats and violence.

Schedule I is available now through Steam Early Access.
